I don't mind so much having different keys for the door and ignition. I have double-sided keys that fit the doors already. I got 2 single-sided keys with the car also and none of the 3 fit the ignition. And the front wheels are locked at about 30 degrees.
Made it fun to get the little beast into the garage. I'm really going to need to be able to steer it someday.
The lock cylinders are different between early tilt and non-tilt columns at the least. I think the 90+ double sided key cylinders are different too.
What did the 90 omni have? Single sided?
Would be so awesome to be able to rekey the whole car to double sided. I hate single sided keys
Been working on cleaning up the block all week. cleaned the main bearing bores, gave the cylinders a quick run thru with the dingle berries, an ran a fine file and then a stone over the deck. Found this. Either this engine sat with the #2 cylinder open, or it blew the headgasket @ #2. Not sure. But, there's some pitting near the fire ring for the headgasket. I need to grab an old gasket and see if these pits are inside the fire ring or under it. If they're under it, I'll have to take the block to the machine shop to be decked.
Not too worried about the pitting in the cylinder wall. It's above the top ring. So, it shouldn't affect sealing. The rest of the cylinder bore is OK. There is some other light pitting that was mostly cleaned up by the +0.02" bore.
EDIT: Yep, it's under the fire ring on the 2005 head gasket. Bummer. I guess I can pull out the 'other' '87 block I have and see if it's in better shape.

So, what is the real difference between the 2005 and 2006 head gaskets? I just noticed that the kit of parts I got with this car included a 2005 head gasket. I had always used 2006 on my 2.5's. Is the 2005 better for the early blocks?
Spare block is in worse shape. I guess this one goes to the machinist. Not what I was hoping for.
Now, I wish I had taken the one from Aaron when I bough the car. But, I thought this one was ready to go.
bummer dude.
yeah i hate when "good spare parts" turn out not to be so.
shoot aaron an email and see if he still has it. you going to SDAC? we could bring it to you.

Now, what to do in the rear? I'm kind of lost. Is there a good (available) rear shock for the L-Bodies similar to the Koni Orange? From another vehicle?
What about springs? I think 140lb/in would be about right.
Got some relatively minor things done today.
Installed a new ignition lock cylinder. I can now turn the steering wheel.
Also got the PDC bracket suitably altered to fit; installed the PDC and started modifying the harness to fit the GLH.
