'84 GLH Restomod + BoostButton Development Car

Picked this car up tonight after a 7-hour (1-way) drive. It's been in Aaron's garage for about 11 years, I guess. This is the car Bucar had posted for sale. It's a project they started a while back and never finished. I guess I get to finish it now. The best part - the floors and frame are rust-free. The paint on the roof is pretty much gone, and there are spots on the fender lips which need attention. And a couple of dents and dings.

I wish I had taken some actual before pictures. These are only after we re-installed the hood and put my windshield in it. And loaded it, of course. Which was an adventure itself since the steering column seems to be locked and the key won't turn. So, these are really project in-process pics. A special thanks to Aaron for sparing some of his Saturday afternoon to let me work on the car in his garage before loading it. The weather was crap today, I couldn't imagine towing it home with the windshield open.

Plans are for a 4-corner 5-lug swap (SRT4 maybe?); a 2.2 Turbo engine (probably the 2.2 T1 bottom end I have with the HD rods I just got from Aaron); a Water-to-Air intercooler, and an SBEC harness swap (with an LM+PM adapter harness, I can run any ECU in this car for development purposes).

I doubt it's possible (for me) to get this car going by SDAC. Realistically, I'd like to have it running by the GL-SDAC Fall Color Tour 2015. We'll see.

EDIT: I'm moving all of my photos to a DropBox album to make it easier to keep track. I'll fix the pic links soon. In the meantime, here's a link to the album...

I've got a set of SRT4 knuckles with the calipers and rotors attached if you're interested.

Not really; my boys wanted to stop by on the way home from Rochester. It's cool to see it frozen. But it's damn cold there.

Re: '84 GLH Restomod + BoostButton Development Car

Got the car home this afternoon. Did a look over and picked thru the parts to see what I've got here.

    New bits! Nice!

Plus HD rods, I think I'll be using them. They're the original parts from this cars original engine.

Took some more pics of the car itself...

This is the worst rust I could find.

Hey! It has floors! I thought this was an L-Body...

So, what am I missing? How come no one else picked this one up? is there something bad about '84's? Usually, solid $500 Omni's dis-appear before my eyes...

How do you tell if a knuckle will accept the SLH caliper brackets?

I got a bunch of calipers and brackets with this car; along with a set of 11" rotors from a Daytona Pacifica. Are those a bolt-on to that knuckle?

What about converting these knuckles to 5-lug? Just a wheel bearing swap?

It's largely rust-free, but I wouldn't call it nice. There are dents and dings all over it. To be nice it will need a total body job and repaint.

Mine had ten rust holes in it. Now it has 1 that I am about to eliminate. I guess I'm to the point where I treat nice as no rust or close to it.

Re: '84 GLH Restomod + BoostButton Development Car

1st mini-project got started this weekend. Wiring.

This car was originally a carb car, so the harness that came with it is pretty basic. Lights, horn, wipers, and spark computer. But, they at least used the same 40-way as the later cars. So, my plan is to keep the lighting, horn, wipers, etc from the original harness; and ditch the rest of it. I'll then take the Daytona SBEC harness I have with the PDC (fuse/relay box) and graft them together. Unfortunately, the SBEC harness was cut where it goes across the back of the firewall, so I'll also have to do some harvesting of wire and connectors from a couple of the other spare/parts harnesses I have. So, this should be fun...

The 2nd mini project will be getting the short block together. The first step there will be to drop off the 2 sets of pistons/rods to get swapped around. I'll post more about that when I get the parts back and can really get started assembling the short block.

Only from talking to Brian sporadically for like 10 years. He was probably in the first half-dozen people i ever made friends with talking about old dodges. Well before this forum existed!

Just put all of the solenoids etc on the drivers side no need for a second harness.

Oh, there won't be a 2nd harness when I'm done. I'm taking everything apart and building a new harness. I don't trust 30+ year old wiring, so I want to go thru everything; check for bad looking wires, corroded terminals, that kind of thing.

As for the solenoids on the drivers side - Not sure there'll be room? The SBEC and PDC have to go on the driver's side. Then there's the master cylinder, brake booster, and prop valve. I still would need to run the headlight wires over there anyway. Though, I suppose I could run them across the rad support instead.

Hmmm, would look very clean that way...
