Wow. That's super light. Is there anything else you can even remove or improve on to save serious weight at this point?

Yeah I've been thinking about purchasing the full fiberglass front end, fiberglass doors along with ground effects. that would shave off some weight for sure, but then I'd have to have the car repainted.

I thought about pulling the windshield and going with lexan will probably save me around 8 lbs. Going to fire up the plasma cutter and trim some more inside. more cleaning than trying to lose weight.

The hood would be the biggest savings. If you've already gutted the front bumper and header panel, then the cover is next. The fenders don't weigh anything.

That cage has been inspected? Very strange way to connect the halo to the front down-bars...I don't think that would pass SCCA tech.

It's not for SCCA competition. NHRA is very different from scca. My prototype charger is scaa approved, but not nhra.

Hood is already fiberglass weighs less than 15lbs.

The front end that HairyGlass makes is all one piece.

I bet the doors would save a ton of weight.

For sure. mine are hollowed out pretty good, but I bet 30-50lbs.

For as much as I've pulled out of the car, I always wanted to be able to make it street legal again just in case I ever decide to. of course, it wouldn't be a pleasure ride just something to cruise around in. that's what's kept me from turning it into all fiberglass.

Wow, I thought mine was light. what was done different to the cage to remove 30 lbs.? I'm in the process of building a light weight rear axle assembly, will reduce rear weight by 50lbs. cage update and a few other NHRA safety items will bring it back up to 2330 race weight though.
    Is your rear hatch fiberglass?

The old cage was not proper had all kinds of extra bars and supports in it and was much heavier steel.

Rear hatch is fiberglass with lexan window. Here are some old pictures before I moved the fuel cell Etc

Didnt they use to be available? I coulda swore that's what I used in my auto build like 9 years ago. The steels were black and had holes in them. I got them from Racersteve on neons.org. He welded my band and lined it with Kevlar or carbon. Can't remember.

No, they are no longer available. the power packs were sold out a very long time ago. if they were available I wouldn't have started this thread...

Alabama bands will still do the kickdown bands in Kevlar or carbon or whatever you want them to

That's why I said "use" to be available. Sucks they stopped making them.

About 8-9 years ago I went to SEMA and got a trans parts supplier from California phone number. I called to get some trans parts for my SRT-4 build and I bought the Alto kits for the forward and direct clutch packs. He said I bought the last kits and they're not making them anymore.

Does anyone understand why they can't/won't make them? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Has anyone ever compared the physical size, etc. of the A904 internals?

There's not nearly enough demand for them.

They run three machines 24 hours a day 7 days a week to keep up with their military contracts. it took a lot of finagling just to get them to try and stop one machine to punch these out for us. then they have to send the steels out to kolene to have them treated. get them back and then would hope someone buy them. trust me I've done all my homework on this.

Yup. The 31th transmission stopped being used by Chrysler in 2000 (A413 in '95). How many nineteen + year old FWD Chryslers do you see on the road? Now the ones you see cut that number in half because they're probably running the 41TE trans. I'm surprised I'm still able to get rebuild kits for this trans, let alone any performance parts.

A904 parts (i.e. clutches) are bigger.

The street car/grudge rules here don't let you tie your cage into anything good like you have there Even when the cars have hundreds of thousands of dollars into them.
