Can definitely hear it flare on the 2-3 shift.

I probably will not be making any changes at all until I get to the track again. Transmission and Circle D trq conv. only have three runs on them. Might need more line pressure or band adj. For right now only thing I am going to do is keep leaving the line with higher rpms until the brakes will not hold anymore. Then I will probably start using the two step.

What happens on the 2-3 shift is the front band releases and direct (front) clutches apply.

wasnt there a spring you bake to reduce 2-3 flare?

"Joe Dzwil suggested shortening the spring in the front clutch pack by a 1/2 an inch will result in quicker and harder 2nd to 3rd shifts. He compressed his in an extra front clutch assembly and put it in a preheated (very hot) barbeque for 10 minutes. The spring was compressed about a 1/2 and inch."

yup.... from carl buchbinders old site.

"With a stock drum he is really pushing the limits. On the Reliant I was running almost 200 psi to get it to hold till I got a tricked out drum with a larger piston (increased clamping force with lower pressure) and I was able to drop the pressure down to 150 psi. Once I went to the larger piston all the problems went away, shifted into third like slamming a door. Surface area is your friend!" -Gary

Like I said I am not terribly worried about it right now. Having too much fun going fast for a change

Late here but congrats on the full runs! Messing with the return spring definitely seems like the easiest thing to try if you are doing your own transmission work. Im sure putting 400+tq through a flaring clutch pack will eat it somewhat quickly but if you're only making drag passes im sure it will last long enough to allow you to address more pressing issues and just put new clutches and steels in that drum when it finally comes down for trans work.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

Oh yes I can only go down the track once and then I let her cool down for about 45 minutes. That's the great thing about a track rental there's no rush to try and make passes
