    It looks like a 1 watt wirewound resistor, of fairly low resistance, the heat may have discolored the bands, the side sitting next to the board might give a truer read on that. Probably employed as a current limiter. So something starts sucking too much power, that gets hot, theoretically rising in resistance more to help limit draw, but too hot and it goes splut.

    Tt was 3ohm 5%. Unless Radio Shack has some (doubtful), I'll have to wait until Monday to get to the real supply house and pick some up.
