either way, it looks like everything i see from what you posted is correct. to jumper that cable just insert a wire (paper clip?!) that connects the rx/tx lines on the 6 pin connector end. if that works it must be an issue with the sci connector/wiring on the ecu side. do you have a flashable smec? if so does mptune flash a bin ok?

Nope, I don't have a flashable smec, I've used the ostrich instead. I uninstalled MPScan and MPTune and reinstalled them and ran the updates for both. It still gave me the error message to turn the key off. So I tried the jumper wire and it started to record. So I tried plugging it into the SCI port on the car and it started working. Not sure why that is, but it's now functioning. Thanks for your help Morris and Rob!
