Man you have some Big Daddy parts and a Big Daddy build going on! Very cool n very nice!!!
Nice work!!!!
Thank you and appreciate you letting me take pictures of your car the other year at Cecil to help with my build. As you noticed I copied you fuel sump setup with the only difference being my fuel vent will be mounted on the filler neck. I had the bung tig welded today and hopefully I'll have everything painted by this weekend.
Tip of the day, gasoline works the best at removing undercoating.
Spent all day media blasting the trailing arm. 10min in, the blaster stopped working and had to sift the media and clear the obstruction in the gun. It's the first time it's happened and couldn't have been any worse timing... I'm surprised my homemade extension held up.
Then my light stopped working and it wasn't the bulb . luckily the side panel is removable.
This was the most time consuming blast I've done but will be worth it in the end. Took it out to check the progress and noticed a lot of welding slag. It looked like crap and had to fix it
Chiseled it of and ground some other spots. This is the finished product before I put it back on the cabinet for the final blast.
Did some more blasting until too much moisture was getting into the media. I can't complain since I put the hurting on my compressor, it was piping hot... It's a good thing I ran the metal lines the way I did and put a water separator in.
Tip of the day: if you have a media blasting cabinet I highly recommend getting a Dust Deputy for media recovery. It greatly reduces the amount of times you have to clean the vacuum filter plus you throw the recovered media back in the cabinet. It mounts between the cabinet and vacuum. As you can see I recovered about 15lbs of media, the bucket was empty before I blasted the trailing arm.
Put the first coat of Chassis Saver on the. Bottom of the trailing arm and waiting for it to dry enough for a second coat so. It takes about 2hrs, if you wait longer then you have to scuff it with sanding paper. This project tool long enough, I'll wait the 2hrs so I don't have to sand.
Getting a little help from my friend to expedite the process.
What an awesome build! You make me want my own powdercoating unit even more, I'd be doing the same thing with powdercoating the world lol
Thank you, the initial investment wasn't too bad and yes I'm addicted to powder coating. Powder is cheap and goes a long ways.
Finished painting the fuel filler neck and tank straps with Chassis Saver last night. Not happy with the way it came out but the conditions were not ideal, I'll have to live with it.
I have one last batch of powder coating to do today and should be done on the paint side. There's still some work to be done before I can start assembling the rear section. Hopefully I can have it ready to go together by the end of this weekend but have some other things going on.
I ended up ordering the brake cables and they won't be in for 2 week's but I can't complain since they cost $8.51 each. I decided to experiment by painting the bolts with Chassis Saver to see how it compares to using black oxide. I cleaned them on the wire wheel then put a light coat of Chassis Saver on them with a foam brush. They look like they're thin enough to not cause a problem with the sockets fitting. I'll find out soon enough.
I didn't like the way the rear spindles looked so I cleaned them up and coated them with Chassis Saver.
I have a few more things to do yet and was planning on assembling the trailing arm off the car. Not having the cables is going to slow this down but at least I can install the fuel system and buy the rest of the brake parts.
