Stalls when stopped, runs fine when driving

1987 lebaron 2.2 turbo.

replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter, and AIS motor. car was rough idling before all those parts replaced.

NOW it runs fine first thing in the morning. It accelerates good. MPG is a steady 19.5 to 20, BUT once in a when i stop it will idle down LOW and stall out. It will immediately start back up and may or may not run rough for a few moments THEN it will either be fine OR it will stall again.

it did not do that BEFORE i got all those parts replaced. I am thinking maybe it needs a new ECU or the vacuum lines may need to be replaced? they are the original lines. any other ideas?

Start with the vacuum lines for sure. I guess it has no codes?

Yea agreed on the vss. I had to replace mine as I had many symptoms of the failing vss but never got a code till it completely failed.

Mine was pretty well stuck in its home. Had to pry it out. There is one bolt and yes I did take the bolt out. Also my trans had enough oil in it to leak out of the sender location so be ready with something to catch oil. Also be sure the gear comes with it.

If you jack the pass side of the car up really high you won't lose any fluid while changing the sensor.

Vac leak would be too much air and give a high idle.

When you replaced the idle motor, did you clean out the TB? The passages can get carbon'd up and then not flow air so well.

I've been told by people with much more experience than me to not touch base idle.

Any time I've had stalling problems like described I take out the AIS and clean it thoroughly. That usually provides another year or two of trouble free usage.

My mechanic swears its the vacuum lines, not the VSS or anything else. They are the original lines from 1987 and they are worn and cracked and crimped in places. He is 100% sure that is the cause of the stall. Will let you all know wednesday night how it went.

Well its easy to pressure test for leaks. Your mechanic should have a scanner to read the speed sensor output.
