Question Need help to install Louvers.

I purchased a set of louvers for my 89 Daytona. The louvers came with the mounting brackets. These parts are used so my question is -- How are you cleaning off the old adhesive from the brackets and even more importantly, what should I be using to re-attach the brackets to the glass hatch to be sure the louvers are installed securely?

Heat them up and peel/scrape off as much as you can, then use some form of adhesive remove to clean them up. As for re-install, some good 3M doublesided tape. If you go to a body shop they may hook you up with some high quality stuff.

I wouldn't trust 2 sided tape. What I did with mine was I went on-line and bought proper windshield install glue, cleaner and glass primer. Seems to work great.

From the factory they are installed with doublesided tape, why wouldn't it work for a re-install? How do you think all the factory emblems and body moldings are held on?

Emblems don't weigh as much as louvers or catch as must air as louvers either. 3M double sided tape comes off pretty easy compared to the glue that the OP is talking about trying to get off the brackets. I'm with rare_ram on this one. You're going to need something better than double sided tape.

Thanks guys -- I'll stop by the body shop and see what they use/recommend.

The new louver brackets I ordered for my Daytona when I installed the louvers on it came with double sided tape. Granted they weren't on the car very long before it got totaled, but I had a few trips north of 100mph and they didn't even show any signs of flying off. Located the way they are on the rear window, they don't "catch" much air. Don't cheap out when buying the double sided tape as there are diffferent strengths. You will have absolutely zero problems using it if you properly prep the surface and use good quality tape.
