What's the deal with 1989 electronics?

I see a lot of people converting to '89 electronics. I converted to SDS back in 1999, so I haven't really messed with any factory efi systems for tuning. What is so special/different with '89 that is better? I have an '85 sc that I'm starting to modify, so will probably go with a custom cal from boost button. I already converted to '87electronics, but didn't want to convert to stand alone on this one, but curious about the '89 wiring.

87 TII wiring spec and 87 LM will work just fine for you.

88/89 SMEC have a faster processor and more memory than 87 LM's. They also put the PM and LM into the same casing vs two different casing at two different location.

Software-wise, it's easier to do certain things with the SMEC than it is the LM. The launch control, for example. But, for just basic tuning, the LM is as open as anything, and in many ways it's simpler to work with (fewer tables overall).

Thanks. I'll be looking to get one of your cal's once I get some flow numbers on my cyl head.

is the LM flashable yet? That's my reason for going SMEC.
