    Who does valves?

Who cuts valves? I'm looking to get a bunch of stock valves undercut and/or back cut to have ready for my next head / valve job.

    Is anyone grinding stock valves?

    Very nice.

Can you also undercut the stem just behind the valve head? Not sure how much can be gained (or how safe that is); but its legal in my class now.

How much would you charge to do 2 full sets (16 valves; 8 int, 8 exh)?

I'm not sure what area of the valve you're referring to here. Are you talking about the spot I missed right next to the stem?

I don't know what a fair price would be. I bought the valve grinder and seat cutter to do my own. My shop labor rate is $70 an hour but I don't think it would take an hour. $70 seems high to cut 16 valves. What would you be willing to pay or what do you think is fair to pay?

    Re: Who does valves?

I believe he's asking to have the stem undercut, to decrease it's diameter and increase the flow...

Yep, this. I want the stem to be 7mm dia from the head to the bottom of the guide when fully closed.

I can't port the head, so every little bit on the valves help.

$70 for 16 valves cut seems fair to me.

This is the kind of undercut I'm looking for:

    Re: Who does valves?

Any data on others who have done that to stock valves? By data I mean is the valve robust enough to handle the undercut like an aftermarket valve might be. Probably not a big deal on mild RPMS and weak cams.

I can not cut the stem like that on my machine. I just tried chucking up a valve and it won't work. That is probably going to have to be done on a lathe. I can only do what's posted in my pictures.

Which is exactly what I run - mild RPM and a stock (TBI) cam.

But, I have the same concerns. I don't know if anyone has done this to stock valves...

    Re: Who does valves?

I would be afraid of it burning valves because there isn't much material there.

If the valve is a 2 piece design, in other words with the head of the valve welded to the stem, I wouldn't cut the stem down! Asking for a broke valve in the combustion chamber in my opinion!

On that same site, it says undercut stems. Swirl polish is the pattern they leave on the valve head.

That's a good point. I have no idea how our stock valves are constructed. Exhaust may be 2-piece.

    Re: Who does valves?

Rob yes stock valves are 2 piece. I think you will find on the exhaust that a tulip valve will outflow a nailhead. Can you run aftermarket valves? If so, I have found the Manley valves design to far outflow the SI's (or stock) on the flowbench. I will have to dig up a REV intake valve for a Masi 16V application. Holy undercut stem! They survive just fine too.

I can run aftermarket valves, they just have to be stock size. Will Manley make valves for our 8v heads? I didn't see anything close in the 'ProFlow' design...

Maybe cut down the head diameter of the Manley's to stock size and then regrind the seat area.

I wouldn't cut down the stem. Didn't Mopar make stock undercut valves? Call Chris or Cindy, their suppliers might have some.

I have a set of DC valves that are undercut, but they are IMSA size. not sure about stock ones though.
