    Filters....

I've got an 87 Shadow with a 89 2.5 T1 motor. At speeds over 45 mph I get a sputtering (like fuel cutting out) and my mpg is down some. I've installed a new FPR and the sputtering has been greatly reduced but it's still there some.

The previous owner had installed (recently) a Super60 pump, which I've found out is ok for stock performance. However, I was thinking of replacing the filter and here is what I've discovered.

Shopping at Advanced Auto's website I've found that for an 87 2.2 turbo, the filter part number is different for a 89 2.5 T1.

So, would the wrong filter cause this sputtering?

    Thanks!

    Re: Filters....

A clogged or improperly installed (backwards flow) filter may cause sputtering, but there shouldn't be enough difference between the 87 and 89 filters to affect anything.

    Re: Filters....

If memory serves, the filters are all the same on TD's so that won't be an issue. If its clogged, it could be the problem. Your oxgyen sensor could be stuck or reading incorrectly, bad tps also. Have you checked the coil output? do you have any codes? I would clear out the ECM memory as you've had alot of issues and drive it for a few days, then check codes.
