    A-568 2nd gear Shifting issue

When shifting from 1st to 2nd gear it feels like it pops into place far more pronounced( i actually feel slight resistance right before this happens) then normal accompanied by a slight pop noise(maybe a single grind?). No issue when down shifting and if I shift from 1st to 3rd before going to 2nd there is no issue. Synchro? Forks?

    210k on the tranny.

inspect shift cable for any anomalies..pull on things to make sure they havent broken apart and are just sitting inside each other

Synchro getting thin enough that its barely working now? Transmission in my P body has 2nd gear synchro without enough material to function. Previously it had shifted like yours. Had it apart to confirm I can race it but any low rpm shift will instantly try to pop in because the synchro can't grab the gear anymore.
Nobody does anything for our 1-2 synchros. I looked around to get them relined, nothing

Im guessing you need a new set of fork pads on the 1-2 fork and measure the height on the 2nd gear side of the synchro. If nothing else flip around the 1-2 synchro assembly and re-install.

Does it get better once warmed up ? Mine shifts like garbage when its cold, 2nd hah don't even bother unless you want it to grind and fight you. 3-4-5 are similar but once its moving there ok. Once the whole unit has soaked some heat off the engine it shifts just fine, the oil thins out enough to drain away from the worn friction surfaces faster/better is my theory anyways.

Temp seems to make a difference. How long have you been riding it like that for?

Re: A-568 2nd gear Shifting issue

I have been rolling with this junker transmission for a couple years now. No idea on the real mileage but I know for certain I've put 45,000 on it in the past 3 years (installed at 255,000 just shy of 300,000). Based upon the condition of things when I took it apart and did what I could do to freshen it up without putting any hard parts into it it was run very hard. Third was destroyed, yet 5th looked almost NOS condition… minus the fork pads were totally blown.

Chrysler put a notice in the owners manuals (or at least P body ones) that shifting effort may be harder when the unit is cold. I run 5w20 from october/november through march before back to 5w30. This is the third winter I have done that and I think it has made a small difference.

Its the 6 bearings, oil seals and fork pads. It does not come with new friction rings for the synchronizers, that's BK377WS.
