    Injectors Question

Yesterday I noticed a strong gas smell in my 89 shadow 2.5l t1 and when I went to check under the hood one of the injectors was leaking externally. Good thing I caught it in time because it was starting to smoke. My question is, can I run the 42# injectors on the factory ECU or will I need to get a tune? I don't know if it helps but the ones on the car are part #: 4418213 and say Deka on the side. Aslo when I took the fuel rail off I broke a few vacuum connectors and lines, what's the best way to replace them? I was thinking of getting a vacuum distribution block.

    Thanks for looking.

    Re: Injectors Question

They'll plug in and run, but I don't think there would be enough "learning" room for them to "adjust in" without the tune being adjusted...

    Good luck!

    Re: Injectors Question

My friend has a set of 440cc DSM injectors do they work with the factory connectors? I know I'll have to run an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to use the DSM injectors is there anything else I'll need?

Thanks for bearing with my newb questions.

If you put 20% bigger tires on your car, is your odometer going to be correct?

Same thing with injectors and ECU. ECU can only do what it is program to.

Hence why I would use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

    Re: Injectors Question

Yeah, it will actually drive OK with the larger injectors, the problem will be at idle when the computer goes into open loop (no O2 feedback) and you will have 20% more gas washing down the cylinders. Also at WOT it will go open loop but if you have the boost turned up you can take advantage of the extra fuel then.

Yes, fuel pressure can be turned down, and this is what everyone did years ago before cals were DIY tuneable, but keep in mind pressure vs. flow is not an exact science and whatever you adjust so its not rich at idle might not be great for high end.

For the vacuum lines, you can use a distribution block or just replace the broken parts. Making sure there are no leaks in the vacuum system will help out later on
