    Project Spirit v3.0

goal of this project is just to have a solid working car to tow with to replace my acclaim thats all bent up. its going to be using the 3.0 with 4 speed auto(for now) 11" brakes , upgraded trans cooler and tow bar its an 89 though so everything from my 91 acclaim needs to be transferred over

when me and my friends drove down and picked it op from omniwrx last weekend

both cars together- the acclaim is wrecked pretty bad, it only has 60k miles but almost every pannel on the right side has been replaced before i got it and just was hit again and has floor rust so its time to replace it

    stock

stock turbo blade rims, think the 17's from my csx will look better on this car

the new spirit looks good but the interior is pretty sun damaged, all the door panels and a pillar trim need replacement. its too bad i just junked my other with perfect blue interior panels now i need to find a bunch of stuff at the junkyard

need to swap the the window sweeps with the others

removing interior, need to pull the dash to replace heater core and install the 91 wiring harness, also going to install crank windows for simplicity and weight savings

under the carpet was all wet, witch explains the moldy smell, going to truck bed liner the floor to keep it from rusting anymore. its only surface rust right now. going to toss out the sound insulation from under the carpet (+more weight savings), also might find a better carpet since this ones cut, there is a prefect condition gray carpet in the JY and i have a mint red one, too bad blue is so uncommon

thats all that got done today, More to post over the next few days

That spirit looks sharp in that blue paint! It reminds me of a car I saw at SDAC years ago.

hope i remember where everything goes

removed the entire wiring harness from both cars, the dashes and heater boxes motor is coming out tomorrow then just need to figure out what parts to put back on

that cant be good for flow, 3" in down pipe kinked to about 2", was like this before i got the car, will use it as a guide to make as stainless version for my csx

    Re: Project Spirit v3.0

anyone need some paches for rust or anything? got driver side quarter, rear floors and spare tire well with minor rust

red carpet is just temporary. it was like new so had to use it ,will take it out and dye it black another time, also found out the windshield was done wrong when the car was painted maybe ? so it needs to be replaced or removed and resealed it really leaks bad and it already messed up the headliner witch was very nice but now is getting unglued

is this part necessary if your airbag and automatic seatbelt system is removed ?

located a manual transmission for 90$ in the junkyard just need to remove it. it wont be easy since the car is sunk into the ground and in the middle of nowhere and probably cant use jacks.

motor is in the car now, sorta.. the passenger side engine mount isn't useable since its the large style, transmission mount also too big, i trimmed the square sleeve and it kinda fits but i think the metal frame of the mount is making contact with the bracket, didn't even try the front mount yet but its probobly not going to fit right either

might just go five speed now didn't really decide yet but since its not together yet it wouldn't take much to swap in besides a new clutch and a day in the cold with limited tools to get the trans at the junkyard, worth it maybe... this 4 speed only has 20k on the rebuild though

    some new pictures..

Any 543 in the junkyard is worth the effort at this point. Soon enough the only place you'll be able to get them is from other people on the forums.

checked it out more trans is actualy 125, +shifter and cables 50$. sbec is busted. well it isnt going anywhere, so ill be going back up sometime to get stuff wont bother with the used clutch even if its still good since for some reason they think its worth 60$ without the flywheel

$60 for a used clutch without the flywheel is one of the funniest things i've heard lately.

Did you take the tach or the entire cluster? The RPM capable clusters have some sorta extra chip on top or something like that. Mine were very diffferent when I did the swap so I had to use the whole thing.

used the entire cluster, everything else functions just not the tach, it could be that it didnt work before i got it though ,i think the pins on the back all lined up with actual wires in the connector but i'll double check later on

    Re: Project Spirit v3.0

turns out rpm gauge is just broken.
more progress- poly engine mounts on front and right side, got spirit r/t vented disks on all corners now, new lines and new master cylinder, 3" exhaust and intake spacers installed, had to use entire right side engine mounting plate from an 89 and change the belt pensioner out for an early style one, so now it uses a jeep serpentine belt to get the right length and rib count
had a small problem with a cracked caliper piston in the rear so now one of my rims needs to be refinished
