Yes, it would seem that way. The H would correlate to the 1987 model year and the G would correlate to the St. Louis #1 plant where Lebarons and Daytonas were made. The P bodies were made elsewhere.
The date code says this engine was built on April 15, 1987. The data plate and the sticker on the B pillar would probably differ from this date as well, meaning this engine is not original to the car.
Bummer. I gave away the original block to my 87 SL a couple weeks and and just about sxxx when I realized what I did. I have it back now. Of course these will probably never be that valuable. Or maybe someday people will realize these humble cars were pioneers in small block muscle cars!
Since it needs a rebuild, I don't want to spend the time and effort on the non original engine. I should be able to buy a running common block for less than what it will cost to rebuild this one.
