Will do the spark plug thing tomorrow. I just put the rod bearings in the car less than 1000 miles ago. But, even though I used the same size bearings as what were on the car, it was pretty difficult to turn over once I torqued the rod caps down.

Did you use assembly lube on them?
They weren't standard?
He had an I-shaft failure, lack of oil took out a couple of journals if I recall.
Also, here is a thread from the other site about how to properly get the lifters re-filled with oil and pump back up. Since I know that is still an issue too.

Pulling spark plug wires did not change the sound at all. Hopefully that rules outnrod knock.
And yes I changed bearings due to ishaft failure and running with out oil.
what lol, not just the wires, the plugs. You have to remove compression from the cylinder.
hmmm...Im not 100% sure what it means if there is no change if the plugs are pulled..I'm pretty sure if the sound DID change it would mean rod knock, but the other way around may not be conclusive
try going here:
http://onlinetonegenerator.com/
make sure to set it to square wave
then see what your idle rpm is
divide by 60 and input that into hertz in the generator
so for example 960 rpm would be 16 hertz...
then listen to it and see if that matches the repetition rate of the knock sound
then try half that frequency and see if that matches

yeah that would probably be best..although when I suggested it I meant just the wires lol..but you're right removing the whole plug and the compression would be better...

you could also hook up a timing light to one plug wire at a time (with them all connected) and see if the knock sound coincides with the flash...
might want to force idle rpm as low as possible to make it easier
Sounds like rod knock to me.
As for ticking lifters, putting them in oil won't really do anything. You need to drive it or you have a bad one. I had a few tickings ones that would not go away. Ended up taking them apart, full of crud and pieces of the retainer, put them back in, nice and quiet.

Well, it was most definitely rod knock as #3 rod broke today.

Will these work in the T3 motor? http://www.fwdperformance.com/Store/...&ProductID=255

Or maybe a better question, how much extra do you need to do if I was going to swap the 2.5 short block out of my Daytona into the Spirit and run the Lotus head on it?
Link no workie.
To run a 2.5 with a Lotus head, the compression will be too low, and you'll have to plug the dizzy hole. You'll need to run all the TIII stuff, IE water pump, crank gear etc and of course, you'll need a new calibration.

The link was for the FWDP TII Connecting rods. The only ones they have listed for the TIII were $450 H-beams. Vs the $250 shot peens TII rods.
The rods are the same I'm 90% sure.

Come on Matt, not the time or place.
Depends what you want to do, the stock TII rods are fine for some good power, if you want to wick it up, you can't go wrong with the $450 H beam units.
Later T1, TII rods and TIII rods are the same except TIII rods got stronger rod bolts.

So I could do the TII rods with ARP bolts and be good? Just need to figure out what pistons are in the car exactly cause they aren't factory.
STOP.
WHY DID YOUR ROD BREAK.
That is question #1 before you go buy new rods. Sheesh. Nobody is blinking at eye at a rod breaking? WTF? How much engine chaos can occur before we start figuring out why before buying replacement parts?
Im betting it has something to do with whatever killed your I-shaft. Things are not looking good inside that engine.
You'll have to do custom pistons to make up for the change in compression. Might want to search Cliff Ramsdell's 2.5 T3 wagon out. He had detonation issues, not sure if he ever got it under control. Made huge torque at low rpms.
