Brad! Yeah, it would've been awesome to have you there! The Summit Pick and Pull only had one thing worth looking at and that was that LeBaron. I remember years ago me and Zoskalon up there would run into like 10 Daytonas/LeBarons. Now that I bought my own I had to stalk the Pick and Pull website for like two weeks straight just for ONE car!

There's not a day that goes by that I don't miss that '89 VNT-CSX, but it's in better hands now...

Re: New (To Me) 1987 Chrysler LeBaron

So it looks like that winter weather has arrived and is now staying (I had my fingers crossed that another weird 60 degree day would happen...). The LeBaron now has a nice un-crashed fender and headlight assembly, any kind of paint job will have to wait until the summer.

I have an issue with my heater though, if anyone out there has gone thru it please help. I've been driving with mittens in the mornings because my heater only blows out through the defogging vents (windshield, window vents), I cannot get it to work at the Panel, Floor, or Bi-Level setting. The LeBaron has digital climate controls and I can hear the clicking sound when I switch through the settings. Can anyone tell me what that clicking sound is and how it is failing? Is it all vacuum controlled or is there an actuator/motor back there? How can I get to it? The reason why I ask is because there is that 88 LeBaron at the yard with digital climate controls. If I have to go take a part out of that junker I gotta do it before they crush it! All help is appreciated!

Check the vacuum line that goes from the brake booster into the car by the heater core pipes and see if it broke somewhere. I've had that happen way too often. There's also a second one that comes out to the heater control valve. Make sure that one isn't broken either.

and meanwhile if you wanna change setting, do it while lifting off gas sharply... works if leak is small.

Thank you for confirming that I'm not crazy RoadWarrior222, I was able to get it come out of the Panel vents once and I thought I had imagined it!

Carl, any advice for the quickest way to get to those vacuum lines? From the engine bay or from inside the car? What should I be taking apart?

I can show ya, pal. But if you wanna look yourself first: right next to the brake booster you will find two heater hoses going to two hose barb fittings on your firewall. Those barb fittings are coming out from a rectangular piece of foam insulation. At the bottom of this insulation, are two brittle plastic vacuum lines. See to it that they in fact go somewhere. Most likely they do not. Where are they supposed to go? Nobody knows...

Sometimes, the vacuum line on the other side of the firewall will pop off. You have to sit upside down in the driver's seat with your head touching the pedals to be able to see it.

Yeah, what Jakub said. They are very unfun to fix but they ARE fixable.

Update on a couple of things...

I scoped out the two vacuum lines by the pedals. As far as I could tell all the fittings are in their proper places. I'll snap a picture and attempt to post it on here, maybe I'm missing something?

Regarding the Digi Dash on the car. I mentioned that the display tends to fade (past the dimmable settings) to completely black and then suddenly it will just as quickly come back to full brightness. What I forgot to mention was that this only happens to the tach, speedometer, odometer, etc. part of the dash. The very bottom of the dash, that is oil pressure/temp/voltage and the fuel gauge NEVER fade, they remain at all times where I set them. Is there a particular solder point on the dash that perhaps is about to come apart? Would anyone know the exact pin out that controls the top end of the dash?

Bro, I've got another dash you can swap in. If would be the easiest way to solve the fading problem, and potentially isolate your fuse popping problem. I bet it's that dash that's blowing your fuse. Once your old dash is out, we can take our time to see if we can fix it. Wait, don't you HAVE another dash from the yard??
