    92+523 vs 568

My question is about strength, not gearing. As I understand it, the '92+ 523's run course cut gears, so other than the diff, what are the strength advantages of a 568 over a '92+ 523?

I don't Pat, but I will know next year how well they hold up, as I plan on running the 92+ 523 input and speed gears in my 568 next year.

I'm planning the same, but not at the same power level you're at...I'm looking at the 450ish whp mark.

    Re: 92+523 vs 568

I have a 92+ 523 in my 92 IROC R/T. I grenaded the original 568 and this replacement was available at the right price. I have been running it for 3 years in my car at 300 ish HP, never had an issue. I am building a short block this winter and am looking to make 500+. I will be upgrading to a OBX LSD, but other than that it will be stock. When I got the 523 out of the JY it had a recent rebuild and to this day shifts incredibly smooth, one finger is all it takes, no grinding.
I am also curious about the difference between a 568 and 523, this was pulled from a 93 Shadow if I recall correctly.

You can clearly see how much beffier the later units gearsets are, not sure there's any strength advantage in the 568 over the 523. 523/OBX sure saves a bunch of $$ over 568/Quaife I use both styles in different cars.

The 92+ 568 with the lower first gear is the same first gear as the 92+ 523.

I think I remember that the 568 gear set was supposed to have more heat treatment done to it versus the "lesser" gear sets.

What about the 4-pin diff? (for us poor saps that can't justify an LSD) Was the 523 a 4-pin or 2-pin?

They seem fine to me. Its still all the junky odds and ends parts that are a problem.

I have seen both diff types fail for the same reasons. I don't really see an advantage to the 4-pinion diff. As long as you aren't doing a million 1-wheel-peels and it is in good shape with the pin retainers I say go with the 2-pinion for less mass.
