    Possible shelby CSX-t sunroof car

I just picked up a Shelby CSX-t vin1B3BS94E3JN244759. The Plaque on the dash says Shelby CSX-T Thrifty #853. whats odd is the sunroof has Chrysler corp glass and looks to be original. I'm not sure if I should restore this car to museum quality or just treat it like the toy I bought it to be.

any help would be greatly appreciated

There seem to be more than one sunroof CSX-T around.

the difference between my sunroof and that other one is mine was not cut-in to my roof. it is a factory stamped sunroof roof with Chrysler glass. I tried to get a photo of the Chrysler marking on the glass but I couldn't get the camera to focus correctly.

I'd say it's worth doing the research. And nothing says you still can have fun with it!

More research is needed on the car. It may have been damaged early in it's life and the roof was replaced. Reminds me of the non-sunroof 87 GLHS that was running around. The sunroof code should be on the data tag on the core support if it left the factory that way. Still pretty neat!!

I know of a very nice 4 door Omni GLHT that had a factory 2 door L-body sunroof installed. The glass is like half the size of the roof! Looks different, but sort of neat.
Phil, it does appear to be Chrysler sunroof. I suspect someone went to a lot of expense to put that on. Have someone at Dodge/Chrysler dealer run a VIN check on the car. You can get a printout of the buildsheet. If it does have the sunroof code on the printout or core support, you have found a needle in a haystack. I owned a 89 Sunlight yellow ES shadow with a factory sunroof until a short time ago. To tell you the truth, the sunroof I could take it or leave it. Yours is pretty interesting though. Probably a good story there somewhere. Enjoy your CSX-T. I have one too, #614.

Take a picture of the headliner side of the sunroof. There should be several clues to originality there.

finally got a photo of the glass etching

here are the interior photos you requested

I hope these help. I have no idea what the factory sunroof headliner looks like but this looks pretty original

Any way you go that is pretty darn sweet. I really wish the 89 cars would have received the sunroof. I really like them.

Re: Possible shelby CSX-t sunroof car

the fender tag does not have a sunroof code as far as I can gleen from the myriad of random decoders (they also say my car is anything from a LeBaron to a van so creedence is not on their side....)

perhaps someone here can help on the tag

    V2211214 APDH24

Every online decoder I found either didn't allow for enough digits or was confused by the codes.
any help confirming or disproving the sunroof car is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Phil

Re: Possible shelby CSX-t sunroof car

My car without any doubt is.........NOT an original sunroof car. I finally got the car on a lift and looked at the sunroof drains..... they are brass barb fittings.the roof under the headliner is red. so I have a very well done re-roof but not original sunroof. This makes me happy because I can now race it with no fear of tearing up a one of one car...

Re: Possible shelby CSX-t sunroof car

Makes me wonder if it's just the roof, or if it got rear-ended at some point and "two became one"... And the donor car had a sunroof?

To find out, we'd need to know where the red ends.

the roof appears to be the only red. the right rear 1/4 was replaced at some point too but it is white like the rest of the car.

Re: Possible shelby CSX-t sunroof car

Hmm... Now I'm curious about the hood, if it's original to the car?

I'm wondering what would cause the roof to be replaced, and accident would probably be bad enough to total the car, but hail damage, especially while it was still a rental car ("brand-new") might do the damage that would require roof replacement, but not really damage the rest of the car's (non-horizontal surfaces) exterior...

Not that any of this matters, I'm just in a bit of a "CSI" mode I guess.

Hope you have lots of fun racing it... In fact, the sunroof, in that context, could be an "escape hatch"... but let's hope it's one that never gets used in that capacity!

Re: Possible shelby CSX-t sunroof car

I'm sure it was repaired very early in it's life. My Dad had a 93 Plymouth Duster, my brother got t-boned in it. It buckled the roof in the accident and in the estimate it showed the replacement of the roof. The car was only 2 years old and the damage was $6K and they wouldn't total it. My dad didn't want the car with it being hit that hard, he traded it in on a new left over 94 Shadow ES. He traded it still damaged, got $7500 trade for it. I wonder what ever happened to that car.

Most hail will dent the rear quarters and top of the fenders too. Ask me how I know.
