Did you have a bill of sale with the sale amount on it? I don't and they told me they would just have to charge me retail value even though I told her I paid $5grand for it. So I asked what that amount was. Well on a Dodge Lancer ES it's $1850 That's better than 5grand I told her. Wonder what they'll try and charge me when I go back to title it as a Shelby.
Bill of sale and the signed title both said $1100. But hey if it worked out the other way for you that's great! Nice to know that my minivan is worth more than your shiny new toy..wanna trade?

hope I get the nice lady with all the tatoos again then. No no trade but I know of one for sale
In my state they will charge you standard presumptive value or your actual transaction price, whichever is higher.
I know i waited a year to transfer my Prius title and it saved me about $200 in taxes because the value finally went down on it from twice what i paid to 1k over what i paid.
Most of my cars the SPV doesnt hurt much because the state says (and i agree!) that most cars from the 80s are pretty worthless now. 6% of $600 doesn't bother me much.
Honestly, i would be ok paying even MORE taxes if we could do away with titles for old---- cars and just go to bill of sale. I would gladly pay a moderate amount of money to buy my way out of mixed up title situations. Nobody keeps good track of titles on 30 year old broken down cars, so something like half of the market of cars i look at has title issues.

I miss my 3.5HO 1997 Sport. It was a hoot to drive as my first car, had the limited stone white paint, +/- autostick, and rattlecanned black caps. I was cool!
I always wanted a 1st gen 3.3 lh car. They have a ton of room and ride really nice. The 3.3 ones are so easy to work on compared to a 3.5,pushrods FTW!When is the last time somone saw a eagle vision TSI?
I saw one in the junkyard a few weeks ago!
I never had any real difficulty working on my 3.5 car. About the only big difference for anything you're likely to have to do is that the 3.5 actually needs a timing belt. But it's pretty dang easy!

Found one on craigslist, got a kick out of the ad lol! http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/cto/4953524753.html
I 2nd that Vigo! I miss my 3.5HO, it was a hoot to drive, especially with cone filter on the TB it had some great sound to it! lol
I'm glad we got the van, it looks like crap but is the most practical vehicle I've ever owned. That Intrepid I tried to buy would have been nice though, it was one of the nicest looking ones I've seen in a long time. The wife's Sentra is starting to wear out so I'll be looking for something "new" again here eventually. Maybe a Magnum if it will fit in my garage
