Pin needs to come out. Use a small punch and hammer.

Yeah, you definitely want to use a proper roll pin punch. A screwdriver will just mangle it and make it harder in the long run.

The easiest way I have ever removed and reinstalled those roll pins is with a properly sized punch and a Craftsman auto hammer.

Buzzes them right out in two seconds without damaging the shaft or U-joint. Reinstalling the pin is even easier.

I have never taken a roll pin out to get a rack out of a turbo mopar. Every one i've worked on has a steering coupler with a D shaped receptable that just slides apart and back together. Super easy to take apart. The hard part is getting them lined back up when you try to put it back.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

^ Same here, but you will need to remove the roll pin and coupler to swap it onto a new/reman rack & pinion.
