    CHEAP rebuild question

I might need to do a CHEAP rebuild. I don't want to touch my CB 2.5 yet as it will get forged pistons. I have an '86 shortblock with a burnt #4 piston.

I've done plenty of re-ring jobs before, just not for a forced induction motor. If I simply hone and install new rings (of course, I'll pop in a used piston for #4), will I get enough ring seal? Or should I really think about boring it .020 and installing a set of Mahle's?

What is the stock bore, and what tolerance? I'll measure the bores to see what kind of piston-wall clearance I'll have with stock pistons.

Yes, I will install new bearings and gaskets.

I can't answer your question, but keep me in mind when you are looking for rings. I have a set of .030 over rings for sale cheep.

Hone and re-ring. I've done this in a motor 3 times in the same hole and it sealed up just fine. Never had more than a 5psi variation between cylinders during a compression test.

Thanks. I don't want to do a half --- job on the 2.5 CB and I don't want to spend money on a 2.2 non CB. So, standard rings and bearings it is.
