Red face Tons of blowby rings possibly stuck. Ideas....

Had a motor that's been sitting for a really long time finally got it fired up and my compression test was
    1. 120
    2. 120
    3. 30
    4. 60

leakdown showed me that the rings are leaking terribly by as I'm getting tons of air out thru the crank case. The rings won't even seal to get a reading on the gauge. Could the rings be stuck from sitting. The bottom end was a stock t2 that I bought from a jy. Seemed decent but I didn't tear the pistons out or check the rings or anything like that. Bearings and all that checked out so I tried running it. Haven't done much more than fire it up and let it idle.

put some kero in those 2 and am letting them set for awhile.

worst case you're 0.5 to 2.5 hours away from having the pistons in your hands and knowing all

This much is true. Problem is deciding what to do. Full rebuild or a hone and slap pistons and rings in the thing.

Well if they were stuck with carbon, kerosene, wd40, kroil etc might get them unstuck reliably with engine being good for a long while after.

However, if they're stuck with rust, you've got a high chance of liberating a bunch of abrasive rust particles even if the rings do come free, which is not gonna do your bores any good, and if you get unlucky, score your bearings also.

I tried kerosene and it didn't help. Still the same readings. Makes me think more than rings. Does anyone sell mahle pistons with rings anymore? To swap and see what happens?

There is no liquid that can fix a cracked piston.

Unless you melt the piston and start again.

Negative. eBay sometimes have New Old Stock for sale. Good luck in your search.

Are the sealed power pistons an acceptable alternative? I'd hate to buy forged pistons just to try new pistons and rings and have to bore it and get oversized stuff

I know some have used the Sealed Power pistons with success. Just note that they are hypereutectic, so you don't get the resistance to detonation that a forged or even cast piston would afford you.

What size are you looking for? I have a brand new, in the box, never used set of 2.2 T2 Mahle's at home. Just not sure of the size...have to double check.

Also have a fresh rebuilt T2 shortblock on the stand, never fired.

I'm thinking they are standard bore, but I haven't measured to confirm anything yet

I seem to remember an argument about those that ended up somewhere near "Meh, they're fine under about 400HP" given adequate tuning of course, you can break anything otherwise.

Very true. I have a boost button flashable cal. And a af gauge can't do much more than that

What the heck is red diesel? I was reading up on stuck pistons and saw this mentioned on HAMB and a couple other places. I'm working on an old Honda twin that I'm trying to avoid taking down.
