    Burning Oil (from turbo?)

Believe the I'm leaking oil from the compressor side of my '89 T2 turbo. Oil in upper/lower intercooler hoses and air box hose. PCV system disconnected from air box to rule out oil coming from the valve cover.

Turbo was a used unit bought from a reputable board member. Little shaft play. Why is it leaking oil/how to confirm oil source?

Oil drain is using silicone hose, no sealer used on drain tube gasket. Drain appears clear and free of obstructions.

Sorry for potato quality cell phone pictures.

    Thanks for any/all input

That's a Lot of oil! Do you have a pic of the compressor housing with wheel?

    Re: Burning Oil (from turbo?)

I do not, I'll get one tomorrow.

I unhooked the charge pipes after driving yesterday and there was minimal oil present.

Pulled the plugs and checked the cylinders, all four had a small amount of oil on the piston tops. Ran the car without the intercooler hoses attached and sprayed some Seafoam into the throttle body to clean things out. Let her run for 10 minutes at idle and then revved her up. Still smoked. Pulled the plugs and they still had oil on the tops.

At this point I believe the compressor is leaking some oil, but I'm at a loss as to why there's so much oil in the cylinders (equally across all four). With the intercooler hsoes detached, there wouldn't be any oil coming from the turbo into the intake. Head had a valve job and new guides/seals. What are the chances that all four valve stem seals are leaking?

Likewise, the motor has good compression (190-200 psig) across all four cylinders, and was broken in for 1000km on conventional oil, so I wouldn't think the oil rings would be leaking (and again, all four of them?!).

Very confused. Not sure where to start on this :/

Maybe there was so much oil in your intake manifold that the ten minutes was not enough to purge it all out? Either that or you have two separate things going on..

Thinking it may be two things. Gonna change the valve stem seals and go from there. Thanks for the input!
