Question shorted battery, what could be damaged ?

positive side taped metal and the car stalled, started fine after. now having the car get very rich when first started and its idleing ( drops down to 10 or 9 and almost stalls ) and when driving in vac is like 12-13, everything was perfect before the battery issue it was consistent 14.5-15 bonce
also have code 34 (vas vnt converted to t2 with custom cal. all solenoids present. code only appeared after the battery thing happened
would like to hear some ideas, i could adjust the fuel pressure but i think it would just mask the problem

O2 might not like that, but otherwise the battery (and whatever metal made the connection) would be what I'd expect to get hurt.

Of course the charging system would be strained and the computer does regulate that ... and there is an offset in the cal for battery "temp", a sudden change in the battery's state might throw that off, but that would be cured with a good battery...

That's all I got, hopefully it helps.

If you haven't had the battery off since that happened, disconnect it with the headlights on for 5 min, so the SMEC forgets whatever funky settings the short might have caused, and see if that fixes it.

Most likely thing to get screwed up from it is the regulators in the alternator IMO.

replaced the battery with a new one and reset the computer, changed the fuel pressure but still getting code 34, maybe vnt selonoid is damaged even though its not doing anything ?
i also lowered the fuel pressure and its appears almost normal now , still need to watch it more though- about how long does it take for the computer to "learn" and adjust the idle afr ?

34 might not clear until you've been in closed loop 20 minutes and gone highway speed.

seems all good now, still in the 10's when first started cold but quicky moves up to 12's and moves up to 14's as it starts to warm up, when warm it idles right on 14.5-15.0 like it should. also ordered a new mopar speed sensor will see if much changes after its installed

Re: shorted battery, what could be damaged ?

I caused this situation on my Spirit 2 weeks ago when I didn't disconnect the alternator feed wire or disconnect the battery and was removing the harness from the alternator to do some work on it. I have some issues but I can't confirm they are "short" related. Rich and lean issues though. Scanner sees the adaptive learning going up crazy amounts when its acting weird.

Years ago I shorted a battery and fried part of my fuel pump windings.

Re: shorted battery, what could be damaged ?

shorting battery -- seems that would drop the voltage to the ecu.. causing it to shut down (car stops running)

I'd check to make sure the alternator/regulator are still working, and double check the motor grounding straps (they could have fried)
