    Mile Unlocking/ unloosening of power?

i have a question for you older turbo guys. i was talking to a guy here in my home town that the older turbos from Chrysler use to use a type of power/HP control on the ECU to regulate the gains until you got to a certain mileage. is this true? i ask because the story the guy told me was how he owns two daytonas. one with over 30K mile and he got a newer one with around 6K or so then bought a cal box/tuner for it. when he installed it. he stated to me that it didnt make the car do anything special and he thought it was defective so to test he installed it on his higher mileage daytona and received a nice boost to power. was mileage limiting a real thing for the turbos?

and would you see Chrysler doing it again with their newer cars today? i ask because the same guy told me that the dart was the same way.

Not likely ... the older computers don't tally mileage like a new car would, which is why you can swap instrument clusters, etc

I can see that a manufacturer might want to do so to reduce warranty claims, and variations on this kind of "protection" are used today, but what I think he may be confused with is the boost being limited until the engine is warm, and/or a minimum of time has passed.

Your average eBay "tuner" is probably something that makes the sensors lie, either by adjusting CTS or TPS values.... in a newer car, sensor responses will be sharper, and the ECU will be quick to fault any fudges. With an older car, where the sensor values have wandered over time and the sensors have gotten sluggish (in particular the o2) then you might get away with more of a lie.

The Dart might be able to do that. But, the old computers do not.

It is not clear from your story what this person installed in their car but his hypothesis is certainly wrong. Beyond the electronic side of things, an engine is done breaking in long before the mileage he has on either of his vehicles.

I know on the dodge/jeep 4.7 the computer had a higher idle for the first 500 miles.
