How many made (is this rare???)

Okay so I just bought a 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z. Attached are pics. Heres the thing I have read on here that only 9422 were made for this year. But the thing is this is an AUTOMATIC. So, if you take into account that it is black, no sunroof, and an automatic Turbo Z. How many were made. Is it safe to assume under 1000? I am new to the turbo world I grew up around these cars and my dad is a big A Body Mopar guy. So I am just curious.

Oh by the way I bought the car for 2300 and it only has 51000 original miles!!!!!!!!

I dont think automatic was a rare option. I wouldnt be surprised if they were well over 50% of production. As for the color combo and other options, hard to say. I believe there is a thread on turbododge.com dealing specifically with production numbers, but in my opinion you'd be better off sticking with this site for repair and modification info.

Thanks for the info on the other forum but I can not find specific numbers such as how many 1984 auto turbo z's were made and how many 1984 black turbo z's were made etc.. So, just curious how many of my car were made. Let me know about what you think of my purchase. Thanks all.

I would think that there would be a large amount of autos. There wasn't a HP rating difference that year between the auto and manual so there wasn't really a penalty either way. Unlike in 89 when you could get the Daytona Shelby in 2.5TI or 2.2 TII trims. The only way to get the TII was the 555 of course so that had quite a few of them compared to the autos than I think there would be if you could get the TII with the auto also.

Oh btw, It's not that 84s are unmoddable, but there's a lot different from '85 up.

annnnd Turbo Mopars, you can get a one of three car, which is cool and all, and it will be worth a whole $500 more than a close spec in same shape.

Hell yes it is! I put one in my 89. I love that wheel.

Yes, that came on a few 84 cars only. 84, though an electrical nightmare for mods, had all the plush option parts no other year saw. Power amp, electric gas cap with lock, illuminated speaker grilles/faces. Steering wheel. Sweet ride for their flagship model at the time.

I'd venture an educated guess that black leather in an 84 is much less rare than in an 85 or 86 as many of the leather 84's may have been demonstrators at dealers back in the day

late 80's & early 90"s most of the black leather interior parts I found at the wreackers were in 84's

It's yer basic carving knife in a paper plate, that kept everyone driving more sensibly back in the day, rather than that wrapped in cotton wool invulnerability feeling that lets them think texting is a good idea during rush hour.... but just as long as everyone feels better right? That's what we were aiming for.

Beautiful! Hope to get my silver 84 Turbo back on the road someday! Mine has the silver/black checkerboard interior that is trashed and impossible to find. Keep her in good shape. Congrats!

Is there anyway to add airbags to these kind of cars. I am guessing no since there is no electrical to deploy them upon impact.
