How many masi shelby dodges actually running right now? How many waiting for parts that don't exist?
How many masi shelby dodges actually running right now? How many waiting for parts that don't exist?
Now we're talking! Count me in.
We all know the Masi bottom end is a boat anchor, so good to see you making all the right moves on your build!
Having said that, a TIII can easily be made reliable And Powerful in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing and parts ARE way easier to come by.

LOL, now THAT is the real question!
Mine would be running if I just wanted to get it together and go. Really the only thing I'm missing is a turbo. But, now I've started to dive into the car more, so I'm not getting any closer, really. I just can't seem to "settle" on putting the car together this way knowing I am just going to want to rip it back apart later...

I like 3.0s ... so??? ... stop looking at me like I've got two heads!
Having a Hans Herman head, or even complete engine would be like having one of the prototype Masi engines, or the DOHC Hemi heads. They are super cool and would be a treat to hear run, but are really useless due to availability of not only just parts, but just information in general! There's no literature on them to tell you torque specs, clearances, etc. Would I turn down an opportunity to have one if I could? Heck no!! I'd have it in a heartbeat, but I would do so knowing the practicality is nill.
Pretty sure TU had one a few years ago and was looking into reproducing it. I remember seeing it at carlisle and it was definately cool.
Probably more than you think. The only part that doesn't exist really is the valve cover gasket and that will soon be a non-issue with Joelzip doing all the leg work to make it happen.
Yes the bottom end is a tank. I can have a 2.5T1 or 2.2 T2 shortblock on my engine stand and lift the whole thing out of the stand and set it on the ground or lift it up and put it in the stand. When I got my Masi motor I cherry picked it out of the back of my friends Minivan and put it on the stand as it was easier that way. I got the head off and the accessories torn off and wanted to put the motor on the ground. Loosened the lock bolt on the stand and started sliding the motor and bracket out of the stand. As soon as the bracket cleared the stand the thing went straight to the ground. There was no stopping it. It did go squarely to the ground which was a good thing but man I did not expect that at all.
With the low factory compression I needed custom pistons anyway. I had a T2 crank lying around and figured since the pistons needed to be custom and I could bump the compression some I'd do custom rods too. Using RDI's parts in the heads saved quite a bit of valvetrain mass. I have Fidanza pulleys for all 3 big pulleys, Made a custom crank timing belt pulley that saved me another 1/3-1/2 lb. I have a UDP and aluminum flywheel. Just trying to decide if I should run the Spec Stage 5 disc or go with a 3 puck. I don't want it to slip but I like the weight savings of a 3 puck.
the T3's are getting better and some can get them to run. But I've seen more than 1 that have had all the fixes done to them only to nuke themselves a week or a month later. I don't want that ticking time bomb under my hood. I'm of the mindset, build it once, build it right and the extra $$$ you invested up front will pay off down the road. I'd hate to do that and have it blow up in my face.
I'm not an expert on Masi but I do know there are other unique parts that are impossible to find due to limited quantities built and have to be custom made.
Cams and Cranks come to mind.
Don't want to get into a pissing match but it's a simple fact, Masi parts are more difficult to find and / or reproduce and hence more difficult to repair if problems occur.
There are plenty of t3 motors out there with 200k = plus miles. How many Masi's out there with that kind of milage? Maybe plenty I just don't hear about them.
Doesn't mean they aren't reliable just maybe not proven.
Well some of it has to be that the Masi crowd don't associate with us commoners. ....
... I can imagine them trading parts by hiring a Monaco casino penthouse, and having butlers offer them off silver platters, surgically clean

the cams don't get wiped out, if you want more lift that can be done. new cams can also be made but they're not cheap. Cranks. Haven't heard of any failing but then a 2.2 or 2.5 crank, rods and custom pistons are easy.
No pissing match here, just having a friendly discussion about how we feel.
You'll have to ask Alan about high mileage Masi's he's in with all the blue hairs that bought them
The stock Masi crank, rods, and pistons are all unique, however you can easily swap in any of the stock CB cranks and use the TII rods. Then you just need the custom pistons. The stock Masi crank is 52#'s!! I weighed it myself, so it's not a myth!
Simply due to production numbers (there were only 501 production Masi engines ever made) parts are going to be more scarce and aftermarket support will be nill.
The cams are one of the parts that there really aren't that many spares out there. Cam lobe sluffing can happen to Masi's (I had one like that), but it's nowhere near as common as with TIII's and not nearly as detrimental.
I don't know about higher millage Masi's either. Remember that most of these cars were not driven much and still aren't. It's kinda like looking for a 200,000 mile Ferrari or Lamborghini. Not saying it's not out there or can't be done, but it's not going to be common by any means. Couple that with the fact that it seems that when these cars did go in for service that the places working on them had absolutely no clue what they were doing and probably caused more harm than if they had not been messed with at all!
No pissing match here, either...just a friendly discussion.
Oh...I'm not trading parts in a rented penthouse in Monaco...I'm eating mac-n-cheese, soup, and sandwiches...I'm broke!! LOL
Im sure the Masi motor is interesting but any motor that only comes in a $7k K-car has a big hurdle to jump before i really start caring. I have 2 k-cars that are twice as rare as a masi TC that didnt even cost 4 digits of money to buy.
Dont get me wrong, im willing to spend OVER TWO THOUSAND AMERICAN DOLLARS ( ) to get a decent TC, but putting the masi motor in it doesnt get me from that to what people are asking for them. I think mike's 40k number is closer to justified then what most masi TCs get listed at.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
Quick. ..I need $40.000
Price went up to $43,000 as it just appreciated. Man I love collector cars
And i like friendly trolling threads.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
At that price i should buy 2
