changing to roller cam do I need new lifters?

replacing the slider stock cam with a roller. Have replacement roller followers and roller cam.

Do I need new lifters or will the current ones be ok?

no kidding. I thought the springs were the same. I think this head might have the good springs but won't know till I pull the VC.

In a nutshell no, but if you can get some PT's, your engine will love you for it. Springs you can't really check on the car but if its stock, leave them be. Rocker arms, yep.

Quick way to check is to use dial or digital calipers on spring diameter. Stock slider will have .177" and rollers will have .187". Most performance aftermarket springs will be .190-.200. Spring pressure was increased a bit (open and closed) at the factory when the roller cams were introduced, at least on turbo applications.

PT's make the engine run better?
The springs look the same as the springs on my recent rebuilt head for glhs 313.

So you can see .010 difference in diameter?

Yes PT's will help the engine run better as they don't collapse like stock lifters. They're also cheaper than stock lifters.

The head on the car is a recent rebuild and has the exact same paint marks as the other springs.

lol, was going to suggest you should go into the machining field. Most people can't see that but Machinists can.

Re: changing to roller cam do I need new lifters?

IS there a difference between slider a roller springs? I have a roller cam on slider springs in the Lebaron, might be why it seems noisy and sets the knock light off...

okay ordered PT lifters. Now if the weather would quit with the 100 degrees I could go outside without vaporizing.

Now is this a particular year pt motor lifter? Just 16v or turbo? I see loads of PTs in the junkyard

Re: changing to roller cam do I need new lifters?

Best thing to get is the MP 2.4 lifters. They're new, and have the metal valve, aftermarket have switched to plastic valves.

Also remember you need the shims for them. Easiest way to do it is have The Pope send you some or if you find the thread over at TD.com the part # for a box of them at our local industrial supply house is available. These are a specific hardened Grade 8 washer that has the correct thickness with 2 in each bore and the correct diameter.

Todd said there is but it won't make your top end noisey, it could cause a bit of valve float at high boost.

Look for the hole in the top, the early models didn't and had oiling issues, Mopar upgraded them with the bleed hole.

Hmm, maybe my lifters are just worn out then, cause it is pretty noisy. They were used ones anyway. Might have to throw another set in and see. I do remember having to shim them a good bit more than what it is said to. IIRC I had to shim to around .170 to get them to run quiet to start with.

Re: changing to roller cam do I need new lifters?

Cam installed with roller rockers and pt lifters. Without redoing the timing belt...epic.

Seems quieter and has great low end power. So far so good on the cam side but still have that dang miss and throttle hesitation.
