    TU clutch chatter

    I have a turbos unleashed 6 puck purple pressure plate combo in my car. 92 Iroc r/t. I didn't drive the car for a couple of weeks, then I started driving it again and now the clutch chatters bad while taking off, shakes the whole car violently. What would cause this?
    Car has maybe 6000 miles on the clutch. Never had an issue before.

    Also seems to go away when the car warms up.

    Is it a sprung hub? That can do it with certain puck clutches. Continuous-face clutches like stockers are great with a sprung hub. It seems to be luck of the draw which is better on a puck setup. I have a Turbos Unleashed 6-puck yellow plate clutch with a solid hub and it is a smooth daily-driver clutch.

    I'm pretty sure it is a sprung hub, Chris at TU helped me pick it up,but I'm not sure. Issue just recently arose.

    If the engine is power washed, there is a heavy rain or the vehicle is not driven regularly in a humid climate corrosion can form on the flywheel/pressure plate contact surface. This could create sections with varying levels of friction. As the pucks travel over these higher friction sections the springs will compress then release causing the chattering. It's best to run the car up to operating temperature to burn off any moisture that could cause surface corrosion after the examples I listed above. Hopefully the corrosion is not too bad so it will eventually wear off and equalize on the contact surfaces.

    So would "burning the clutch" help this smooth out?
    I mean like, rolling down the road about 25 mph, put it in 3rd or 4th, the rev the engine and let the clutch out slow so it slips.

    After speaking with our clutch manufacturer today they noted that you will also experience the same chattering when the pucks become glazed over. Driving the car for a few miles should remove the glaze and the chattering will diminish.

    @Johnny- Using this method will sometimes work but don't over do it. All you are looking to do is remove the glaze/corrosion to re-mate the surfaces.

    I did some more driving and I would say it is 90% gone, it will chatter every once in a while, but not consistently. I did try Johnny's idea and it did seem to help, that and a good amount of "spirited" driving at 25 psi.
