    he341 holset rebuild and up grade

    hi guys I had my brother in law send my turbo(he341 holset ) out
    to get it rebuilt and up grade I should get a email Monday with some options
    what do you guys thank would be a good set up
    for my 86 Omni 2.4 srt-4 awd how big should I go with the hot side
    or what would be the best way to go i am trying to get a head start
    the car has 400 hp computer and carlos (lotsaboost) and other people think
    the the car should be a high 11 sec car but track time will tell

    All you should need to do is bore the waste gate hole as large as the puck can seal , mabey reclock the compressor housing which will require welding new waste gate pot mounting brackets but that turbo will be more then happy at your hp goals it's good till 40 psi.

    Only thing I'd personally do is run an external wastegate and have tons of added benefits as well.

    I was not aware of any serious upgrade possibilities for the hot side. I know the compressor side has a lot of options being that the 56mm cast wheel can be upgraded to 60mm billet or cast and also even bigger.

    Go with external wastegate.

    My friend tried to port out the hole, and still had the boost creep problem. After he went external wastegate, problem was gone forever.

    well I did not get a email Monday
    all I was told is that the turbo is in bad shape and the cost to rebuild it
    I should be getting a phone call on wedsday to see what else we can do I just might have to suck it and pull out the credit card


    ill look in to external wastegate down the road

    I did not do any up grades I only had the turbo rebuilt the turbo was in real bad shape
    I hope no one has to rebuild there holset

    So you must be paying 600-800 to get new wheels etc.

    There not that expensive to rebuild. What's the problem? Wheels damaged? I just rebuilt my HX35 for $60, granted, the wheels were good and it has the 12 point nut, so no rebalancing needed. If your spending that kind of money, I'd upgrade the compressor wheel.

    Ok, that sounds like an explanation from some slick car salesman. Bad shape as in WHAT? Did the wheels hit the housing? If not, $600-$800 is way too much.

    the wheels on the hot side was hitting the housing and the inter wheel was messed up and seals was bad
    so i just had them do a full rebuild

    The same damage is what put bansheenut's car into a downward spiral when he saw what the turbo would cost to rebuild (more than he bought it for I think).

    I been driveing the car to brake in the turbo I got on it a lil bit well its still blowing smoke but not as bad
    I thinking the valve stem seal are bad
