I have a g-head. I'll see what casting number it is and let you know. It was the original head on my 1985 omni GLH-T if that would narrow it down?

    Re: WTB- 655 G head

They originally came on 1981 and 1982 only, and had an oversize intake port, and are the only head where the intake gasket matches the intake port. All later heads have an intake port smaller than the gasket. I'm sure moparzrule knows this, so I'm just posting for general info. in case someone has one laying around. The general consensus is they are no good, but I also have one that I'm hoping to try once my intake is finished. A few guys who ran them seemed happy so the general consensus might not always be right!!

    Thanks
    Randy

Nah that'll be a 287 casting, thanks though.

    Re: WTB- 655 G head

I have a ported one sitting in the shop to try on something also With the correct intake I think they will make some good power, probably not as much low end as the smaller ports but I'm thinking top end will scream. The few who have run them and describe how they run seem to support this theory. Boostgeek said his would pull 8k no problem. His had large valves also, as well as 2.4 lifters.

    Re: WTB- 655 G head

Yeah I'm going tomorrow, but I'll post if I find anything or not. Thanks

Right now on a 2.2L I'm running a 57 trim with stage 3 .63 turbine, TU header, ported 2 piece intake with 52mm TB, and a ported +1mm swirl. Also planning on trying TU's R2+ cam with this setup. Eventual plans are the Acannell intake, 58mm TB, HE351 holset, and a ported 655 head. This car is not a daily driver, just a weekend cruiser, so all high end power is fine with me it helps with traction anyway.

the ports on a 655 are the same size as 2.0/2.4 16v ports.

yeah, and Ford 429 CJ ports you could about roll a tennis ball through. Big ports mean about nothing if the rest of the design can't support it. The 429CJ hardly rewrote any record books. Exactly like the 655's legacy (lol).
BTW what is the volume of the 655 intake/exhaust port? Anyone know besides bigger than a 287?

    Re: WTB- 655 G head

only thing wrong with the 429 CJ heads is the exact same thing wrong with the standard 429 / 460 heads

the CJ intake ports are good for high rpm big block ford - the standard port not so much
    BUT the exhaust ports suck
they turn downwards inside the head to allow an exhaust manifold that fits stock applications

but , raise the exhaust ports 3/8's inch and the head turns into a freeking monster
    aka trickflow heads for 460

horsepower on spike's power block did a "stockish" rebuild then to compare they droped in a 688 lift cam and the T F heads & intake - made close to double the power

    https://www.google.com/search?q=hors...551&gws_rd=ssl

lol I've got the short block and the T F intake - I stalled out on my 460 when I bought a computer and discovered TD and TM.... still need the ### heads but I keep buying turbo 2.2 stuff

sorry ... I tend to stray at mention of BIG FORDS

My '85 Omni GLH H.O. had a '445' head on it. What is the difference between the '445' and the '655' or '287'? I thought they were all G-heads.

    Re: WTB- 655 G head

85's usually had the 287 head. Basically and typically, 81-82 used the 655 head which has the largest ports of all the stock heads. 83-84 was the 445 head, normal size ports and used 10mm head bolts. 85' used the 287 head usually, same ports as the 445 but 11mm head bolts.

Xtrempickup- I struck out today, found a couple 287's and one 445. I saw a dodge 400 and my eyes sparkled but when I got up to it it ended being an 83' so it had the 445 head. That 83' was the oldest car there at Harry's U pull it.
