What year Transmission Control Modules compatible to 1991 Spirit A604

Have a newly purchased 1991 Dodge Spirit with 58K miles, perfect interior and body. A-604 transmission is in limp in mode. Former Chrysler mechanic managing local Aamco Transmission wants to try another TCM because the car was bought with a totally new TCM installed but he says that on scan it says wrong gear ratios even though it is not moving. He wants to try installing a TCM module off of a used vehicle to see if it has the correct program installed. Local U-Pull-It doesn't have any 1991 3.0L V6/ 4 speed OD transmission combos.

Anyone know if other years are compatible to 1991?

    check this out:http://robskorner.info/faqs/Trans/a604controller.html

If its an original 23 y/o transmission then its probably time for an overhaul. Those early 4 speeds were defective from the factory.

Thank You for the link. The following exerpt from that information may explain the error messages/codes and why it also threw a defective speed sensor code.

One challenge was to make a small number of transmission controller models fit a large number of different applications.
Different gear ratios and tire sizes required flexibility in this area. To accommodate these differences, the transaxle controller is
programmed to condition the output speed sensor signal by multiplying it by a variable 'pinion factor' number, as well as a tire
size value. The TCM converts output speed sensor values to equal 8000 pulses per mile and sends this conditioned signal to
the PCM. This variable pinion factor and tire size is entered into TCM memory by the Chrysler DRB series diagnostic
equipment whenever a controller is first installed into a vehicle. Setting the pinion factor and tire size factor calibrates the
    controller for that particular vehic
le. This way, one particular controller part number can fit many different vehicle applications.

If this programming is not performed when a new controller is installed, there will be no vehicle speed signal, therefore no speedometer reading.

I'll print this and bring it to the mechanic in the AM.

Have you tried unhooking the battery for 30 minutes and trying again? If not, give that a go. If it still gives that error, most likely the tranny is kaput and needs to be overhauled. Because so many hard parts were changed over the years, it might be beneficial to source a later model tranny and rebuild that because it will already have all the upgraded hard parts in it. Of course there are certain things that should be replaced with stronger aftermarket stuff, but your fried should know what should be done and what doesn't.

One other thing I've seen is the turbine input and output speed sensors can get shavings on them and cause them to misread. I'd pull them and check them. There is also a TSB to replace the plugs on both of those sensors IIRC (I know the output for sure).
