I thought that intake went up over the valve cover and straight through the hood on a TM? Unless you are talking about just using the lower section? I have no real help to offer..

Yep it goes up and over. The earlier intake tbody faces the trans and the newer faces the engine and has a specific valve cover with oil fill at rear of head. Yep you need clearance for it to fit. I thought I read someone used one in a drag setup.
There are a few people that run the lower section modified but I haven't seen anybody run the whole intake in anything other than vans. KClarryb was running one last I knew. I am using a newer one for my hybrid build.
