    input shaft seal

I have an a525 that im working on getting ready to go into my shelby charger. Just using the tranny for now to get the car streetable. my question is what all is involved with replacing the input shaft seal. It looks like it should be rather simple but i can not figure out how to remove the throw out bearing shaft in order to gain access to the 3 bolts holding the input shaft cover in place. Any help is appreciated.

Use a large flat blade screw driver to pop the E-clip off the shaft just behind the front pivot bushing where it exits the bell housing. The shaft and TOB fork may be stuck together from rust/clutch disc gunk, use the same screwdriver and some penetrating oil to work the two apart if necessary. The shaft will slide out and the fork will fall away. When R&R the seal retainer remember to put a dab of RTV on the bolts as they do go through to the inside and will leak.

Well i tried prying out on that shaft but should it be really hard for it to slide out? I kinda thought thats how it may have come apart but just seems really hard to slide that shaft out

It might just have some serious gunk buildup. I had to work at mine to get it out, even after the E-clip was removed. Try blasting it with brake cleaner, especially the splines where the bearing fork rides on. Don't worry if the two plastic bearings come out with the shaft. You can just shove them back in by hand.

Well i just came in from the garage and got the input shaft seal done. everything came apart relatively easy with very little fuss. Gotta do some degreasing to the tranny and then shell be ready for install. Probably will have to wait til friday at this point. Thanks again for the input on the shaft removal.
