    89 Stereo connectors

I've got the 90 FSM and it shows the X13 circuit being a common ground for all of the speakers. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find that wire in the stereo area on my car. It had a fancy stereo in it when I got it and it didn't work. I would like a few tunes even if just AM/FM for SDAC. Does anyone have the diagram for 89? It really doesn't look like that wire came in the bundle of my 89 so I'm wondering if there was a change in the connector for 90.

It's a P body. Thanks for that diagram. I'll compare it to the one I have on hand and go from there.

    Re: 89 Stereo connectors

Excellent! Thank you so much. I was really hoping that it was a difference between years or something to that affect. I think I may have a functional stereo very soon. Thanks again.

Yeah I don't think the CSX had anything different than the two connectors. CSX #453 has the standard connectors. Maybe a common ground was used for the stereos with an amp? I'll post the pages for the 89 stereos (P body) shortly, but sounds like you got it.

The speakers ground to the radio, the radio grounds with the un shielded strap . screwed to the back of the case. check the far end of the strap. be sure it grounds to real metal ,like the steering column mount.

    Re: 89 Stereo connectors

Thanks guys. Definitely a difference between the 89 and 90 diagrams for sure. This should be easy now. Unfortunately, this will be the easiest thing to fix now with 4 real days to go.

    Re: 89 Stereo connectors

are you running regular speakers or are you running the amplified infinity speakers?
if you are running the regular speakers there is no common ground, just + and - like any other stereo out there. infinity speakers will use the same 4-pin plugs as the non infinity setup unless someone has cut the plugs off. the signal leads for the speaker ( + and -) along with a larger gauge green wire +12v accy, and a black wire - the X13 circuit you are referring to- which will be the ground for the amp. if you are running the infinity amps you MUST ground them together at the same point otherwise you will get alternator whine. they usually are grounded to a ground lug attached to the back of the radio, and then the previously mentioned ground strap is attached to the metal bracket below the radio that holds the center console in.

Thanks very much for that info. That will also help out because I'm not entirely sure what is going on speaker wise.

    Re: 89 Stereo connectors

the regular 4 speaker system is pretty much as basic as basic gets, each speaker has its own pair of signal wires run to the radio whether its amplified or not.
if you have a car with the 6 speaker stereo - 2 rear speakers, 2 door speakers 2 dash speakers- the rears are connected normally, the front doors and dash speakers will be tied together in parallel, the - and + from the door speaker and dash speaker on the passenger side will be tied together and the same deal on the driver's side. the splices will be high up in the kick panel on each side of the car.

OK. I'm pretty darn sure these are just the factory cheapo wiring job then.
