    Help tuning a 2.5 hybrid

got my sundance running about a week ago with a 2.5 neon headed engine and the check engine light comes on a lot from knock. With the engine idling it comes on so im guessing it can be pinging at an idle. Put my snap-on scanner on it tonight and it is pulling 3-6 degrees timing at an idle and when trying to accelerate even without any boost it pulls up to 15 degrees. The knock sensor voltage reads .1-.3 while its pulling all the timing and I unplugged the knock sensor and took it on an easy drive it was still pulling up to 15 degrees timing while accelerating.

Where is the knock sensor located? What tune do you have in there?

It's normal for the computer to retard the ignition timing under acceleration, even when the computer sees no knock.

The knock sensor is between runners 2 and 3 on the intake flange. I have a stock 2.5 mtx tune in it now with the injectors scaled.

What pistons are you using? Do you know your compression?

I am using sealed power turbo pistons and not quite sure on the compression but since the neon head has the same size combustion champer as the swirl head I think its close to stock. I am only trying to run 7psi of boost now but it is pulling timing even when not in boost and is lacking a lot of power when it does this.

Is the knock mechanical or is it true spark knock ???

The engine makes no noise and it is not spark knocking that I can hear but it is sensing it and pulling timing.

What if you unplug the knock sensor for idling?

Again, its normal for the timing to retard under load, even when the computer sees no knock.

Re: Help tuning a 2.5 hybrid

Are you looking at the timing advance # in datastream or are you looking at the knock retard #? Depending on your scanner there may be a data line that says "knock active: yes/no" as well. With the knock sensor itself unplugged, if you truly have knock active: YES and are pulling timing then something is shorting voltage/noise into that wire in the harness somewhere.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

If its pulling timing with the sensor unplugged, you have a wiring issue.
