I forgot to post this photo from back in June. I really like this one a lot. And then you have the other photo with the kid trying to boost the GLHS RIGHT behind Alan as we were talking.

Working on the headliner tonight. Didn't add enough hardener to the mix, so it will take a tad longer to set up. Hard to see, but the mounts where the visors go are torn and really weren't doing anything. The only reason the headliner board wasn't sagging was because of the adhesive they added to the backer that mounted to the roof.

This was the finished version. I was really impressed with the feel on both soft and hard. The video (all 5 gigs of it) will be uploading to youtube over the next day or three so we've got that going for us.

Brian, thanks for the pics and the ones of Terminus are hilarious! I can only imagine.

Paul, it was the only thing I really wanted when my ex and I built the house. It's missing A/C in the summer and maybe some heat in the winter, but it doesn't get that cold and the doors are insulated, so it's relatively mild and was fine once we got going with working on the car.

Looking forward to the videos and the pics!

I liked both of them. I wish I could come out there more often and pick up cars or just hang out there. It's always a good time. But yes they are classic and very symbolic of the TM community support. Alan definitely made getting that car possible.

It's nothing crazy, but I put together the footage of us doing the work. I was tempted to write an actual script, but then I would have needed music to put under it and then I would have needed some cool transitions, and then...

Nice video Cordes, thanks for making this!

Got the headliner done. It was fairly straightforward and easy, no issues. Getting started is the hardest for sure, but once I got it set to start laying it down, I was able to get it glued evenly and trimmed.

The traveler wasn't as easy and I had some issues where it rounds the front, but overall it's ok. I don't think the issues will be terribly noticeable if at all once it's mounted. I plan to use one of the screw cover pieces for the trim to cover the screw in the front. They did not think this one through when they did it, i don't think. I don't see any way to mount it without applying the headliner to it after the fact.
I'll get some pics once it's installed.

The visors are another story. One came apart pretty easily, the other cracked in numerous places and I still have yet to get it fully apart. The good is that once it's apart, I can repair it, cover it and it won't ever be seen. The one below is the good one. I've done this with the 89 CSX and it's fairly easy to do. This one is glued together unlike the CSX which is snapped together. My advice, if you want to redo these, get a set from an 89 CSX and save yourself some time.

    Re: 1987 Shelby Lancer #628

One thing to note on the camber plate settings. Set them for as much Negative camber as you can get as well as as much caster as you can get. Then adjust camber out at the knuckle. Why? Well because by moving the upper attachment point in towards the center of the car you improve the camber curve. This will help the car gain negative camber as the suspension compresses. If you just adjust it at the knuckle you don't have a gain in the camber curve. Also you want as much caster in it so you gain negative camber when you turn the wheels. This will allow you to run less static negative camber for better wear and tracking and acceleration, yet still be able to rip corners hard.

Good Video other than the resolution being in 1998 format.

    Re: 1987 Shelby Lancer #628

I happened to notice and watch that vid on my youtube feed only 40 minutes after it was posted. But it was already kinda old news because i knew the suspension had already been done for days. Kinda made me feel stalker-y.

As far as the camber curve, i dont actually think what Jay is saying is true. On a mcpherson strut setup im pretty sure the only thing that controls the camber curve is the lower control arm angle. When the suspension is compressing, camber will go more negative until the arm is parallel with the ground because the lower ball joint is the farthest laterally from the control arm pivot. As the arm goes past parallel and starts to go upward, you 'lose' camber because the ball joint is moving inboard again. If you visualize this, it remains the same almost regardless of where the upper mount is. On a double wishbone/SLA suspension you can build in 'camber gain' by having the upper control arm be parallel or tilted upwards at ride height so that the upper balljoint always moves inboard (towards the middle of the car) faster than the lower one does.

One thing you definitely WILL get if you max out the camber plates negative and the strut yoke adustment the other way, is more space between your wheel/tire and the strut on the inside. Not an issue as long as you stay with stock wheels but it may help you big wheel/tires in the future.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

I probably have the SCC article buried somewhere in the garage I could pull out but this image is from it. This is why you move the top of the strut in.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I appreciate the feedback on this. I'm far from a suspension master yet so this is very interesting to read about.

On the resolution front, the video is now available in full 1080P.
