    valve body question

I am just about done with my trans and I pulled the valve body apart to clean, inspect and mod. Its been a few years since I did one and everything went together fine but I keep questioning the throttle valve. I believe I have the valve guide in correctly but with the rod for the throttle installed the first approx 1/8" in and out movement of the throttle valve has no spring pressure and the valve will move in and out this amount if you tilt the valve body. In other words there is about 1/8" of slop in and out. After this there is spring pressure the rest of the way. The valve guide also moves a little when it is all the way out. I reversed the valve guide and it has spring pressure the whole time but the valve is too far in. ( The valve barely extends out of the guide this way). It might be normal and I just never took notice before. Does this sound normal? Thanks!
