I had a code 54 caused by a bad alternator. I think it was throwing off some AC intermittently and cause the SMEC to freak out when it happened. I checked everything possible, but couldn't solve the problem until the alternator died and was replaced. Talk about a problem that wasn't very fun to track down.
I havent had this alternator for long, maybe about 5 months....
