This is just a question i cant seem to find an answer on the internet. How would i install an external wastegate on a 4 bolt turbo housing. Would i have make a header which i dont want to do. Is there a flange i would need to fit between the exhaust manifold and the turbo. Any imput will be great thanks

You may be able to use a block off plate on the outlet and modify it to accept the gate directly. I think some have mounted it to the stock manifold using a weld flange.

    Re: external wastegate

That was going to be my suggestion, but the intake manifold would be in the way on an 8v.

Can you hang it off the side or does the angle matter on how the wastegate sits

    Re: external wastegate

The angle matters. You want the gases to easily flow to the wastegate exit. It would be difficult to package the wastegate mounted to the turbine. Is it not possible to use the stock one?

    Re: external wastegate

In addition, will this be a street car? I would consider recirculating the exhaust gas with the external WG. The effort to do it probably won't be that much more, granted Slowe built mine, but properly designed it should be easy to do.

I don't think this was a response that had anything to do with your actual question and dissuaded you from an easy sensible not waiting for a year or two option.

No, the wastegate can sit at any angle, and coming off the side is how MOST of this style of wastegate are setup since they usually are using the internal wastegate flange.

Huh? I dont see an easy fix with what he has to work with. You can stick a wastegate anywhere you want whether or not it will work properly is a try and see approach. In order to try and make sure it does work you (ideally) want it placed so that it vents all of the cylinders. Stock vents all 4 at the turbine housing at a 90* angle to the flow. Ideal no but it does work, but I don't see how to do that with what he has. What is your proposed solution as I didn't see one.
