Am I in the right place?

Hello, just joined your cool forum.

I have recently acquired a 1990 Dodge Shelby Daytona

And it has a 1991 2.5 L TURBO, overboosted to around 15-16 psi.

Is this where I need to be to get info for my car, or is there some other forum I need to be on?

I don't wanna mess up your community if you don't discuss these here

    Thanks in advance!

Not quite sure... The PO told me that by adding a 3 bar Map sensor, some +40 injectors and an ECU chip, i could turn the boost up to about 20 pounds and it would be a real crazy street beast!

I'd like to make it a 1/4 mile runner, I think...

Here's a fairly complete list of the car's history and what has been done:

    BODY:
    112K on body
    Ziebart rust protection

    MSD ignition coil
NGK BPR7ES plugs, one step colder

    Walboro 255lph fuel pump
    Stock turbo 2.5 injectors
    Electronic overboost eliminator

Well the biggest issue I see is the cast pistons. Unless the previous owner managed to locate a set of the factory Mahle's. All new cast pistons are hyperutectic, and will never live at elevated boost levels. If you want to run 20 psi of boost, you need forged pistons.

Re: Am I in the right place?

You need a wideband o2 sensor to monitor a/f ratio.

The stock injectors needs to go if you want to go over 15psi.

I remember seeing this on craigslist over a year ago. Guess it finally sold. If they are new 2.5 pistons, they definitely need replaced before turning up the boost. You're only option for pistons for a 2.5 at this point are forged.

Yup, this was on craigslist in 2012. Are you in the Pittsburgh, PA area or did you see the article on Jalopnik?

    http://jalopnik.com/5953818/for-2600...-shelbys-ghost

My aunt is the PO's neighbor. When I first bought it two weeks ago, I searched google for 1990 Dodge Daytona Shelby and the fifth result was that article. As I was reading the article, I realized that the car was looking and sounding verrrrry familiar!

I guess I own a piece of Jalopnik Internet history... LOL

I got the car, along with a Truck bed full of extra misc parts, an extra set of glass, an extra transmission and a second set of wheels for $1500

I think you have T3 and TIII mixed up. T3 is referring to a turbo frame size. TIII is referring to the 16V DOHC Lotus head engine found in Spirit and Daytona R/T's (and Phantom R/T's in Mexico).

If this is the actual set-up, you are going to want to change this. The 2.25" swingvalve is a pretty decent restriction, especially if you want to make power over 250whp (I've personally put down 225whp and there are others out there to claim more, but spool-up and overall performance would be better with the 2.5"). If you can source a TU 3" swingvalve, that is the way to go. Then you can do a full 3" downpipe and exhaust all the way back. If you are going to drive this any length of time on the street you might want to consider a muffler...Daytona's drone pretty bad.

The IC is something you REALLY need to upgrade to make good power. It is a pretty big restriction. Even a cheap e-bay Spearco knock-off is better flowing (I've tested it).

This is physically impossible. The cubby for the trip computer does not exist on the '90 "sunken shifter" console. Unless the head unit for the stereo is remote or does not exist, this can't happen...well, not without a LOT of work because the console would have to be extensively modified.

Reaper, I just re typed what the PO had on a list he gave me...

The T3 and TIII may very well be incorrect.

The car does indeed drone... Lol, learned that on the way home with it

PO also gave me a larger front mount IC in all the parts I got with the car

As for the dash, the trip computer is currently not there, I recall the PO saying he had put it where the ashtray is, but I cannot say for certain as the ashtray is still there now

Ah...gotcha. It's cool that you got a FMIC to go with the car!

As for the trip computer: the dash itself has the spot for it to go, but the center console and the radio surround for the '90 Daytona (1-year only, and only in the Daytona) the center console is raised up and the cubby where the trip computer would go is covered where the ash tray is. The only way to install the trip computer is to get an entire center console and radio surround from a '90 LeBaron or from a '91-93 G/J body (5-speed obviously). The trip computer will go in the spot under the radio. Now, whether the connector exists on the dash harness...that's a toss up. It may be there.....it may not be there. They can be adapted in, but at that point I'd be asking whether a little box with some buttons on it is worth all the hassle. There have been people that have answered "yes" to this, so you wouldn't be alone if it is!

Do yourself a favor and roll through Chryslers @ Carlisle this year. It should be close to you, and it's a good place to pick up parts.

Good deal. Surprised it didn't sell after the np or cp article.
