    I have an issue

Ok so I'm putting 493 back together. All is going fairly well. Well I had to take the fuel sending unit out because the hose that connects that pump to the line popped off. No big deal. 15 min I'll be done right? WRONG. I go to put the unit back in get the gasket all lined up (so I think) and knock that retaining ring around to lock it in place and its leaking. So I took it all out and did it again. And it leaked again. Why. I don't know. I spend 7 yea 7 hours trying to figure out why in the hell it's leaking. I've never had an issue with one before. No parts stores carry the gasket or the retaining ring. So what do i do?
    Go.

You need a gasket. It doesn't matter that they don't have one, You still need one. Now you will have to sit and wait for parts like I am doing. Grrrrr! The joys of owning old obsolete stuff. I actually just went through the same thing with my Jeep. The dealer actually still had the parts though. I don't remember what the gasket on that tank looks like. Maybe it can be made?

It does have a gasket on it. Maybe it's bad? I didn't see any bad spots or anything on it

Theres your fast answer right there^^. Mine had a small tear in it and if I filled the tank it would over flow and drip until the tank was lower.

Found a lock ring and gasket for 10.79 shipped on eBay. We'll see if it works. Should be here Friday.

Wow, they used to carry the lock ring in the Help! section. But I have had to buy a cheap(ish) fuel pump before just for the gasket.
