I dont know how to post vids so links it is
Went out and took out all the turbo plumbing to look for cracks, lose clamps, leaks etc. No leaks found. Cleaned the IAC and throttle body.
Dont have my cable to log yet so still waiting on that.
Once the car was warm I went to check the timing. Was dead on 12 degrees but the thing I noticed was the idle smoothed out to perfect with the coolant temp sensor unplugged.

The turbo plumbing is not causing your issue. It's either going to be vacuum or electrical related. 1st I'd start off by mityvac'ing the vac system. If that tests to be ok, then I'd reset base idle. If your screw isn't in the right spot I could see it messing with the idle the way it does. Check fuel pressure too. Gotta cover the basics 1st.
I have a boost leak tester and pressure tested. No leaks found. Found a nipple cap missing from the turbo so capped that. Have reset base idle. I have not tested fuel pressure. I sure am spending enough money on diagnostic equipment.
That's probably because it locked the timing down to a set 12*. These things do a lot of their idle control by moving the timing around at the speed of 1985. Timing changes can cause huge rpm changes even with no fueling or IAC changes.Once the car was warm I went to check the timing. Was dead on 12 degrees but the thing I noticed was the idle smoothed out to perfect with the coolant temp sensor unplugged.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
true that, I raise my cold idle by just bumping the timing 2-3 degrees on the cold map. No need for an AIS at all. Which makes driving it while cold so much nicer for me. I don't have to use the clutch or take it out of gear or stand on the breaks just to keep from rolling down the road at 20mph at cold idle in 1st gear. nice cold idle of 1100 or so and just creep along unless I want to go faster.
the good thing about hearing it run with no coolant sensor hooked up is it gave me hope this can be figured out. Now if only my chip would get here I can burn a stock cal and try that.
