    Shelby lancer #439

Ever since my first one I owned, I have had a need to pick up one again. So new to me is SL #439, it is a leather automatic car. Engine appears to be in stock condition for most part. Still has factory vac lines, Garrett turbo, and rad/intercooler. Has mp stage II computer. Car appears to be in fairly good shape, body wise, no rust found so far. A few more dent and scratches than pictures would show, though. Engine needs work, compression down to 30psi in #3 and #4 ,100psi in #2 with 130# for #1. Has water leak, probably around front windshield, floor wet with Carpet padding soaked on drivers side front. Plans are to keep it stock for most part.

engine: stock rebuild with TII rods/mahles
Hopefully just a tank clean and hone.
trans: Rebuild (I have a rebuild 413 ready to go now) but may keep it #'s matching.

interior: gut and clean, lizard skin sound proofing for floor, new carpet, headliner.

exterior: fix paint flaws/dents, missing fog lights.

Spring car fever kicking in. Put it up on jack stands and pulled front wheels. Drained the radiator, fluid looked fine. Drained the engine oil, looked milky brown.

I looked at that Lancer when it was for sale in Kenosha, but couldn't swing it at that time.
It was a nice car, I'm happy to hear it's getting the attention it deserves.

check the cowl area for leaks. Lots of sealer up there. Drains could just be clogged with leaves.

Will check and clean out the cowl area for sure, thanks for the tip.

Car is solid, just needs a lot of love.

    Your PM box is full.

I looked at the car about three years ago.
When I looked it over the body and paint were in good shape. None of the paint was peeling which is rare to find. I don't remember the fog light missing or any collision damage, but there may have been.
The interior was in good shape. The most worn part was the driver's seat.
Mechanically it looked like it needed everything. The engine and transmission were leaking quite a bit, but it did run.

The asking price at that time was more than I was able to spend so I passed on the car.

Thanks, didn't realize my pm box was full. Car was in Wisconsin when you looked at it, it has 2013 New York State inspection on windshield, and I bought it in Michigan. The car has been around.

Tore the engine down. Head gasket blown between 3 and 4, #1 rod bearing showed some wear ( clevite 77). Some head bolts were so crusted up with gunk they were hard to remove. Next of to the machine shop, to get the block tanked and checked.

Engine block is back from machine shop, have most parts to start assembly. Setting a goal of having it running by end of May. Depends on what I do for a turbo for now. Stock turbo seams to be in good condition.

Engine is back in car. Threw the front axles and spindles back on to move it out of the garage. Needs front right bearing by the way also. Car put on hold for awhile. The glh will get new clutch and some minor issues fixed over the winter.

Thinking of going all out on the build, at leat all out for me. Some recent SL builds ( thanks SL #369). Have got me thinking. I have the parts, just would like a really solid car, I could drive anywhere and be comfortable doing so. I would like it to be a mid to low 12 sec car, with ac power steering etc.

My ideal as of now, could change by spring.

Car is back together finally. Heavily leaning to an all out build, with a 523 swap,so car will be coming apart again over winter most likely. Want to really clean up engine bay, maybe paint it.

Why a 523? Why not keep the 555 or build a 568? I have a 568, shifter and NOS cables if you decide to go that route. I was goiong to put it all in my Lancer, but I'm going to keep the 555 because I don't have the time and it runs too well.

Just paint engine bay, car's exterior paint looks pretty good, a few dents and front lower right fender.
