Been reading about people upgrading to the Nippo alternator...just need some help locating what I'll need for the swap. Is it as simple as getting a Nippo alternator and a bracket? If so, what cars should I be looking for a bracket from??

You need bigger car lower bracket same approx. vintage as your car. This style doesn't break like the newer style and fits early block L-body perfect. Much easier to adjust than original L-body. This bracket will fit ND, Bosch, and Chrysler corp 90-120+ alts. Ideally you would try to find a 85-86 larger car 90+ amp alt harness so it is a true plug and play, but your looking for something that is approaching thirty years old now so getting tough to find any in good shape. You can adapt your L-body alt harness, but it isn't a direct bolt-in. Contrary to what you might read, any newer alt harness will need several electrical mods on the side near the battery, as connectors are different (see pics). Hope this info helps.

man, this is beginning to look like a wild good chase.
I just want something better than the craptastic 78amp alternator that came stock, and is drop-in. First I thought it was as easy as the alternator and bracket, now you're opening up a whole new can of worms.
I used the stock lbody harness on my nippo alt.
...good to know.
So it's the adjustment bracket, not the mounting bracket I need?
Yes. The tensioner is what you really need. I usually swap to a later style tensioner and water pump housing, but that's my preference and not the only thing that will work.
Any modification that gets rid of those obsolete, nasty, open to weather connectors is a good one.
The biggest expense is going to be the crimper to match whatever you decide to use, after that its all down hill and you'll wonder why you waited so long.
Upgrade the alternator to starter, starter to battery, ground to battery cables. I was losing 1.4 volt with the stock cables.
