Rear Shock Bushings for my CSX

    Hey Johnny

Just wondering if you sold a bushing to replace the rear shock bushings in my 87 Shelby CSX. According to Monroe, these cars should have a bushing with a inside diameter of 10 mm and an over all length of 1.625 inches.

When I replaced my rear shocks with a NOS pair of Monroe Formula GP's, the bushings quickly deteriorated and are now non existent and making noises.

I saw in another post years ago, this happened to another person and you were able to help him out. I didn't see anything on your website so I'm hoping you can help me out.

    Thanks

    Energy Suspension makes them.

In response to johnny, C would have to be 10mm.

I've also looked at Energy Suspension's site already regarding the universal shock eye bushings and didn't see anything that would work, although I don't even know the diameter of this bushing. I was hoping somebody else would know.

Here is what Monroe specifies for this vehicle:

However, now that I think about it, the reason why I probably can't locate the correct one is because there is probably a metal sleeve in this bushing. It would make sense, because I've been unable to find anything with a 10mm diameter hole.

I'll make some measurements tomorrow and see if there is indeed a metal bushing. Unless someone knows the bushing size off hand, I'll report back tomorrow.

This drawing is??? Is the A the inner metal sleeve?
…and the grey part the rubber?

I have hour glass shock bushings in stock.

I need to know the ID of where the bushing would go into.
The length of the steel tube it goes into (end shock loop).
The OD of the inner metal sleeve.

Did some measurements today with my digital caliper and this is what I need:

    A--1.070 inches
    B--Does Not Matter
    C--0.625
    D--0.945
    E--1.625

I'm not really seeing anything on the Polybushing's website that may work. Perhaps there is something not listed on your site that you have?

It seems to be similar to Energy Suspension's 9.8147.

#2046 should work. Length is too long but you can cut it.
Or if ES has something, go for it.

So Johnny question for you. Why does poly deteriorate? I thought that was a major selling point of why it is superior to conventional rubber. If it dry rots like rubber what is the advantage? I too have heard people buying NOS Monroe rear shocks and poly bushings were bad right out of the box. Does poly have a shelf life?

I know this post is a little old, but if the original poster did not find/buy those bushings yet, I went through this with my 87 csx a few years ago. You are correct - the Energy Suspension 9.8147R is a perfect fit and an almost exact match as the original.

Johnny - not sure if you can find the specs of the 9.8147, but if not let me know and I can measure them up. This might be a handy item to have as these old numbered cars finally start getting restored

Yep, the 9.8147R is a perfect fit, they are what I purchased. They have a 5/8" inside diameter, 1 1/16" outside diameter, 3/4" long, and come four per pack. You'll need a quantity of two 9.8147R to do both shocks.
