How do I remove a Mopar alarm system?

This is related to my thread on reversing the polarity on the batter by accident. It is an EVS the remote module is 4443297
1989 8 valve TC by Masi.
The key on off on off doesn't work after I started it with 16 volts from the alternator.

88 smec. Oops I made another goof in the post. the on off was referring to resetting the alarm. The codes on off procedure works.
    89 TC is 88 electrical.

Re: How do I remove a Mopar alarm system?

There is another thread on here about an engine stalling after starting. That situation will be what happens if you remove the alarm module/feature without resetting a bit in the ecu (SMEC).

The problem outlined in that thread was that the engine would start, run for a few seconds and then stall. This is an anti-theft feature built into the SMEC/SBEC code that disables the ecu if the alarm is removed. In that thread the guy got a replacement SMEC from a JY, and when he put it in his car, the stalling issue started. So the SMEC he bought came off a car with a factory alarm, but since his car didn't have one, it stalled after starting. I think Shelgame may have found a fix for it, but I don't recall for sure. So be advised, that if you remove the alarm, it causes another problem. It may be better to look for another alarm module for your car.

Thanks. I guess I better get out the Frye cowboy boots cause it's getting deep where I am standing?

I'm not questioning you but this was a dealer installed option on the TC. Would the dealer be able to alter the smec for this function?

Re: How do I remove a Mopar alarm system?

All the SMEC's have the ability to control a factory alarm module. When none is present, the bit doesn't get set, but when it sees the alarm it sets the bit. It resides in NVRAM so power cycling the module doesn't affect it. I know it can be reset with an "engineering" model DRB II, but the normal DRB II can't do it.

The other fix is to get another SMEC that has never been in a car with a factory alarm. Remove the alarm module then switch to that SMEC.

If the car starts now, go ahead and try removing the alarm module to see what it does, you can always plug it back in. If you disconnect the module and the car starts and doesn't stall after a few seconds, then the dealer installed module obviously didn't affect the SMEC, and you're golden!

I can reset the factory alarm bits in the ECU. Makes it look like a fresh install.

Thank you mucho! I will get back to you. First I have to figure out where the factory stock wires are cut. In the column?
