Do yourself a favor and get the adapter from shelgame to run the SST27sf512 chips. It'll change your life.

    Why is that?
This is actually my first time trying this all out. Going to just check and make sure everything works, and burn a Mopar Peformance tune, swap it in, and make sure I can get through the whole process.

Nothing is worse than sitting around for 20-40 min waiting for the chips to erase. The adapter lets you use the EEPROMs which can be electronically erased in a few seconds.

Ahh...I don't mind. He included several chips, and I'm patient.
I have however realized that my laptop doesn't have a printer hookup, and neither do any computers in the house. I was just taking a second look at the Ostrich....at this point it makes the most sense, if I am going to have to pick up something else to tune the car.

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

Hmmm carbon deposits on cylinder no. 4
This explains why its still hard to start...

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

    Ostrich ordered!
Lots of crap in the filter and intake tube from the pcv valve, so cleaned all that out. Going to paint the intercooler piping while its out.

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

Feeling really frustrated with this car. Haven't even wanted to work on it lately. Somethings not quite right but every time I try a different test the problem changes. I haven't been able to really drive it and enjoy it since I first got it. Starting to think I may have bit off more than I can chew, and will be forever tracking down problems with this car.

did you figure out the shifter cable? most likely its just popping out of the weak spot near the tranny. you can fix it by installing a stop so you cant overtravel with the gear shift lever

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

So life has taken a slightly different course for me lately. I recently found out my wife is pregnant with our first child! I have also picked up a teaching gig at nights to make some extra cash. These two things combined meana my little free time to tinker on this car is gone, and won't be back for a few years. As such I'm going to be selling. Even if it's not what someone wants per se the car has tons of great parts, that could easily be utilized on any of the numerous projects I know you all have
I will be making an official sale post soon, but am willing to take any reasonable offers. I'm a bit worried I won't be able to sell this living in CA...seems like most of you live quite a long ways away.
I do want to thank the whole community. I've learned SO much about cars here! I am completely self taught, and the information contained in here really brought my knowledge to the next level. Thanks for being such a great group of guys!

Congrats on the kid. You'll be back.

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

    Decided to keep the car!
I will probably fire it up again this week and see if the issues I had been experiencing are still there and get back to troubleshooting. Once that is done I will be setting up the ostrich.

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

So I've been trying to sell this car, but it's not really going anywhere. Finally sorted out some of the issues it was having. Baby is due any day now! If I can scrounge some free time I am going to set up the Emu, and see if I can get it running through that. If that works, then I'm going to try swapping in the larger injectors and turn up the boost finally!
I mean I can't just let it keep sitting there
Plus maybe this will build some interest in the car.

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

So my wife had our little girl a little more than a week ago! Things have been a bit crazy, and still are. Since the car is not selling, I've decided to keep it moving forward a bit and see if that can get some interest. I want to get it back on the 64 lb/hr injectors and strapped to a dyno.
I setup the emu, but have not yet got it running, maybe in the next few days. Waiting on the registration stickers so I can take it out to stretch its legs. In the meantime I have been reviewing the tuning files from the original owner, and found that he took COPIOUS notes on his tuning of the set up along with all tuning files along the way!
I am will post the notes below, hopefully they fit, if not I will do this in multiple posts.

    KNOWN PROBLEMS:
    1. Vacuum to 0 psi needs ~5% less fuel P/T. Cruising AFR=14:1.
    2. Vacuum to 0 psi needs more ignition advance (maybe 1 or 2 degrees); P/T. Needs more ignition advance due to 1500 F EGTs; and will be worse due to 5% decrease in fuel.
    3. AdvanceFromMAP P/T and WOT need less ignition advance (maybe 1-2 degrees less) at 3+psi
    4. AdvanceFromRPM P/T and WOT needs more ignition advance (maybe 0.5-1 degrees) at 3krpm+
    5. P/T and WOT fuel needs more fuel at 3+psi; maybe 2-3% to reduce EGTs. AFR's about 12.5:1 in that range so far; trying to target 12:1 AFR.
    6. Pretty sure a fuel injector is leaking (flooded after hot-starts). Need to isolate fuel pressure bleed-off to: fuel pump, regulator, or fuel injectors. If a leaky injector is found, need to re-do all related fueling tables and cold-starts stuff.
    7. Wastegate needs to be repaired; not closing and opening all the way.
    8. 0 to <5 psi needs to be a smother transition for AFRs; currently about 14-14.7:1; should be about 13.5:1.
    9. Need to reduce timing at 12psi P/T and WOT (will ping at this boost level with timing settings like they are)

    CHANGES:
    1. Re-scaled FuelPartThrottle table at points -13.835psi to -1.038psi to 95% of their original values. Re-scaled same table at point 1.038 psi to 98% of its original value.
    2. On table AdvanceFromMAPWarmPart, increased timing at points -7.955psi to 0.346psi by 2 degrees.
On table AdvanceFromMAPWarmFUll, increased timing at point -0.346psi by 2 degrees.
    3. Decreased timing 2 degrees on tables AdvanceFromMAPWarmPart and AdvanceFromMAPWarmFull at points 5.188psi to 29.400psi.
Decreased timing 0.5 degrees on table AdvanceFromMAPWarmFull at point 3.805psi.
    4. On table AdvanceFromRPM2, increase timing at points 2827.043rpm to 6103.843rpm by 1 degree
    5. On table FuelPartThrottle, at points 3.113-29.400psi, increased existing values by 3%.
On table FuelFullThrottle, at points 3.459-29.400psi, increased existing values by 3%.
    6. NO CHANGE YET
    7. NO CHANGE YET
    8. Re-scaled AFR tables for smoother transition on FuelPartThrottle and FuelFullThrottle.
On table FuelPartThrottle, at points -1.038 psi to 5.188 psi, increased existing values by 3%.
On table FuelFullThrottle, at point 3.459 psi, increased existing value by 3%.
    9. Decreased timing by 0.5 degrees on table AdvanceFromMAPWarmPart and AdvanceFromMAPWarmFull at points 14.700-29.400psi.

    KNOWN PROBLEMS:
    1. Detonation detected ~12 psi WOT.
    2. Cold idle a bit rich (~10:1 AFR) immediately after start-up; leans out after about 20 secs or so to 14.7:1.
    3. Need to add Park/Neutral switch pin/wire to SBEC for high/low boost mode select.
    4. EGTs too at 5+psi P/T and WOT
    5. Wastegate not functioning correctly; even when connected directly to boost

    CHANGES:
    1. Going to limit boost to 7-10 psi max. and see if detonation is caused by RPM or MAP.
    2. Need to isolate fuel pressure bleed-off to: fuel pump, regulator, or fuel injectors. On table ColdLoadFromMAP, re-scaled to 75% of original values at points x=-14.700 to -1.384.
Also, try changing TempSwitchPointForCurveAHoldDecay temperature to a lower value and see if cold-start AFR's are better.
Also, try changing tables: ColdLoadFromCoolantTemp, ColdLoadFromCoolantTemp2, ColdLoadFromMAP, and ColdLoadFromMAP2.
    3. Need to find out on turbo-mopar.com forums if HI/LO switch is SBEC pin #30 grounded or open.
    4. Increased timing 2 degrees to tables AdvanceFromMAPWarmPart and AdvanceFromMAPWarmFull at points 5.188psi to 29.400psi.
    5. Need to investigate issue.

    1. Starting fuel when warm is too much (floods engine); ECT temps <100 F or so
    2. Converge P/T and WOT fuel tables at 3-5psi
    3. 5+psi P/T needs more fuel (too lean)
    4. 7+psi WOT needs more fuel (too lean)
    5. Reduce open-loop fuel immediately after cold start (way too rich); throws fuel trims off when switching to closed loop, idle hunts + is erratic
    6. Need more transient fuel P/T to WOT
    7. Timing too aggressive @ WOT (~15-18 psi); pings
    8. Need more starting AIS counts?
    9. Timing too agressive @ P/T (~12 psi); pings

Congratulations on the kiddo. Nice car, looks like you're off to a great start already. There are(were?) replacement P-body window sweeps/scrapers availble at Great Lakes Hotrods, website currently says out of stock though. What kind of speakers is it rockin? Look like maybe JL, possibly Infinity? Head was marked, I assume it got cross-drilled to match the block?

Re: Project Shadowfax: show us the meaning of haste!

So the baby is 7 weeks now, and my wife is getting into a solid rhythm with her. I have been finding time to sneak out and work on the car a bit here and there. I think I have finally found the issue that has been giving me constant weird starting and fuel issues. One of the wires on a relay connector was rotting, and contacting the frame.

I replaced the connector and relay and so far startup is easy consistent and smooth. We will see if this continues because this car likes to break my heart but so far it's looking good.

Emily is now 3 months old shes growing so fast!
Update on the car. Have a possible buyer but I'm not holding my breath. If this falls through I'm just gonna keep it. Nobody local to buy it, nobody wants to trailer it home, dont want to sell it on craigslist to some dumb --- who will end up scrapping it, and I feel guilty parting out a running (although tempermental) car.
Took it on my commute the other day and it did great. Until the end of the day. Started bucking violently. Wpuld go from bogging down to revving up and spinning the tires. All within seconds. Push in the clutch and all smooth. Died a few times. At one point the relay I just replaced was clicking like mad. Check engine light flashing with the clicks. No codes.
Got a ride home, came back the next day with a trailer and it started up and drove on without issue. Started and drove off just fine.
I havent touched it since. I think there are some more electrical gremlins I need to find. I want to go through the whole thing, but am not really sure how to begin. I am tempted to pull the whole harness and inspect every wire and connector and repair any little thing. Super crazy thought is to build a whole new one. Not sure if that is crazy talk or not though...
